Hurst or Kaplan NCLEX Review?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I'm in my last semester of my BSN program and will be graduating this May 2015. I am definitely going to take a NCLEX prep course. I've been hearing good things about both the HURST and Kaplan NCLEX Review prep course. They are about $300-$350 a course so I wanted to choose wisely. What do you guys recommend?

If your school teach to you really well during the nursing school, take kaplan. Kaplan had thousands of questions and they teach you test strategies.

I hd hurst videos and I like her but so far I am hearing that hurst is good for review topics not for question practice.

I took hurst and it was an excellent content review for topics that I needed to brush up on. I also did used the Saunders 6th edition, did every question and reviewed every rationale and I'm currently reviewing LaCharity's Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment book. I test on Wednesday. Keep an eye out for crazy posts from me in the days following 😜

I think Saunders did a pretty good job with teaching me strategy and it was much cheaper than Kaplan. But strategy is nothing without knowledge of core content. With that being said, if I had tons of money I would have done both but I'm also happy with what I got out of Hurst.

If your school passing level high and you do well in nursing school that's mean your content knowledge is good. My school exams were crazy hard.. They don't use test bank or something we can find. I was preparing by reading three different med surg book in order to catch every detail and I did thousands of questions. Each exam at least 500 q I solved nclex type related exam topics. Now I do get well on kaplan w out review content. Just learning strategies now in class kaplan course

I definitely want to brush up on my content because it's so much information to retain in the 2 years of the nursing program at my school in Chicago. I also want strategy on how to take the NCLEX but taking both prep courses can run $900. Kaplan Review is $499 and HURST is $350 about. So I may want to take HURST and purchase some practice question books and strategy books? Maybe I can find something online video tutorials on strategy...ugh. GOOD LUCK - Christina731

I just finished the Hurst review and I loved it! It has great content review and does do some test taking strategies. We had people in our class who had taken Kaplan and failed boards the first time around. They said Kaplan didn't help them at all! That being said, everyone learns differently.

I did hurst and it was great. Practice questions are the key for me passing any nursing test

Kaplan has money back guarantee if you fail at first time

Hurst is GREAT for content. I did the live Hurst class & took a month to master all the material in the Hurst book, I was able recite the info with understanding (a former classmate & I took the class & quizzed each other every day). If you have the time to put into studying the Hurst material(not just reading it, but understanding it & being able to lecture on the topics), then Hurst is the way to go. If your content is super strong, no question can trick you.

Kaplan is good for those who already have strong core content knowledge. They teach you strategies on how to answer the NCLEX questions.

Choose wisely. Much Success.

I took hurst for content. It was a great review. I bought kaplan 2014-2015 review book in Amazon for thirty-six bucks. Maybe you could do that?

Thanks guys! I just graduated with my BSN in May and took HURST Live review right after graduating. I needed core content review so I took it and the workbook is helping me studying/review thus far. I plan on taking the HURST Q-Review exams (total 6: 125 questions each), LaCharity's PDA book, UWorld.com questions, and Lippinocott's practice questions.
