I've been a RN on a Med-Surg floor for about 3 1/2 years now after going back to school to change careers. I took the CSMRN exam in May 2019 and failed with a standard score of 90. I used "Lippincott Certification Review Med-Surg Nursing - 2018" book which I only finished like 60% of the book w/ questions, purchased the 75 MSNCB review questions, and used the CMSRN app that I purchased questions as well. I honestly thought the exam was hard and barely finished my 150 questions in 3 hours. I felt pretty defeated cause a couple of other co-workers took it recently and passed with barely studying. It's not like the NCLEX that's all i'll say. Any recommendations or advice before I decide to retake this lovely exam?

Curious for any updates with your RN job? I'm a new grad as well from May 2015 and finally passed my boards in late November. Looking for a new grad RN job in the saturated market of Chicago.

Nursing was a career change after a personal experience being an oncology patient 8 years ago. So after graduating with my BSN last year May 2015 and finally passing the NCLEX in November, I am on the JOB HUNT...almost on the verge of desperation as a singe 33 y/o. Based on what everyone has said I definitely want/need health insurance through the job and PTO is a plus.

So I passed my boards finally in late November 2015 and while applying for jobs I noticed some flex RN job positions were "benefits ineligible". What does that mean and is it good or bad for a new grad RN?

Wow! Those are very specific scenario nursing questions. Well I just scheduled an interview in a Med/Surg unit and I will definitely read up/review the hospitals's mission, vision, and professional nursing practice. This hospital also has magnet status for nursing care. So for Med/Surg what scenario questions do you think they may ask a new grad RN? This is nerve-wrecking!

So I just passed my NCLEX and wanted to get some input/advice from folks on what types of interview questions they may ask on the phone & in person if I make it that far :) How should I present myself and also I have no healthcare job experience besides my clinical experiences. I live in Chicago (born/raised) and trying to apply to RN1 positions that are available in our hospitals here. Also, I'm so till waiting for my RN License to come in the mail after I submitted the $50 fee. I hope it doesn't take long. Thanks! JP, BSN, RN

I'm currently preparing for my 2nd attempt after failing on my 1st attempt in August 2015 with 128 questions. For the 1st attempt I did the HURST live review, reviewed content, did questions, and did Lacharity's Prioritization, Delegation, and Assessment questions. When I took the exam I wasn't sure about most of the questions and felt so overwhelmed. Now as I prepare to take it a 2nd time in November I bought a q-bank access to UWorld.com after some classmates took it a 2nd time and highly recommended doing their questions/reviewing rationales. Did you feel prepared using UWorld.com when you passed? I need to get more focused and motivated to prepare for my 2nd/hoping last attempt.

Thanks guys! I just graduated with my BSN in May and took HURST Live review right after graduating. I needed core content review so I took it and the workbook is helping me studying/review thus far. I plan on taking the HURST Q-Review exams (total 6: 125 questions each), LaCharity's PDA book, UWorld.com questions, and Lippinocott's practice questions.

I definitely want to brush up on my content because it's so much information to retain in the 2 years of the nursing program at my school in Chicago. I also want strategy on how to take the NCLEX but taking both prep courses can run $900. Kaplan Review is $499 and HURST is $350 about. So I may want to take HURST and purchase some practice question books and strategy books? Maybe I can find something online video tutorials on strategy...ugh. GOOD LUCK - Christina731

I'm in my last semester of my BSN program and will be graduating this May 2015. I am definitely going to take a NCLEX prep course. I've been hearing good things about both the HURST and Kaplan NCLEX Review prep course. They are about $300-$350 a course so I wanted to choose wisely. What do you guys recommend?
