i took my nclex yesterday and ended up in 76 questions, went home and got the cc page in PVT. everyone in this forum who got the cc page end up failing. i am so devastated but i have to move on, i admit that i did not focus well on studying thinking that nclex is same as the Phil board exam, plus i have 2 jobs, so i did only 100 questions a day. i am doing saunders 4th edition, the 5th ed cd, kaplan review book and PDA but still i failed. now for those who failed and passed, could you give me some advise? i am planning to stop on my other job just to study for this nclex, i will be taking it again within 45 days. i want to know if KAPLAN online course is worth the penny. hoping for your response. please lift me up... thanks

I think so...it's up to you to believe it and achieve it.

i sure hope i can do this within 2 months, because i believe that more than 2 months is Too much preparation. my question again is that how many days can you use the hurst online review? like for 90 days just like kaplan?

This year they raised the standards for passing the NCLEX. Did you notice any types of questions you kept getting? I used the lippincotts book, did all the pharm questions in the pharm book, and the questions in the books assigned for class.

I failed NCLEX last May too and it was a lot different than Phil boards. A lot of people here I read they failed 2x,3x, or more. As I see it, I think you have to know with all your heart, mind and soul the content, procedures..Because NCLEX plays on your weakness. Im plannning to do retake for my 2nd attempt but I will give a lot of time. To think, I'm not working,I used Saunders,PDA, and Kaplan. Saunders is really helpful. Although people may see that the questions there are easy, but the point is knowing and understanding the concept. Kaplan is very helpful too only if you're more familiarize with the content. I would like to suggest to wait for your performance report and work more on the "below passing level" Now,Im bracing myself with more books to buy. And a lot of books to read plus practice practice practice. I hope I will make it on my 2nd attempt :)

i have a lot of priority questions, 40/76 i think. yes they indeed raised the standards of passing the NCLEX that's why i'm planning to invest for an online review.

we have the same review course. saunders, kaplan and PDA, but i'm a type of person that once i've read the question, like in the kaplan book, i don't want to come back to that again coz i already know the answer and the rationale. i'm choosing between kaplan and hurst, and which one of them is better.

we can do this on the second try, all we need is to strive harder to achieve our goal: TO BE AN EFFECTIVE REGISTERED NURSES.

I hope you don't decide to study beyond 2 months!

I said the MAX (most) time to study for the NCLEX is two months-no more.

I used Kaplan's book and signed up for the free test taking and practice NCLEX exams. For an online review, NCSBN (makers of NCLEX) have a 3-week, 5-week and 8-week course with content and exam questions, each with a set passing requirement of 70%.

It has a TON of content, but their questions are similar to the NCLEX. I paid for the three week course to have access to the questions. Way cheaper than the Kaplan course, for questions that were similar and familiar to the NCLEX? Priceless.

OP, after getting your performance review, please don't overlook your strong areas as well. For your studying, you may concentrate just on your weak spots and forget about your strong ones, which may make them weak. It might be just your luck of getting questions with the familiar context, thus making that particular area appearing strong. Don't put too much weight into the performance review as it may not be 100% accurate.

I'm also a grad from the Philippines and I failed the first time as well. I highly recommend hurst review. Like you I tried to do a self review and did 2 jobs. But this time around I took a leave from one of my jobs studied full force and I feel much better for my upcoming exam. Hurst is very good for content and strategies they really breakdown the important stuff. For us foreign grads we really have to study more because nursing here is different. Anyways good luck to us! Oh and I also did nclex 4000 la charity and Saunders.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about doing the hurst but came across NCSBN and thought it would be good idea because they are the makers of NCLEX. I'm also going to use the PDA book. It will be my taking it for the second time and this time I will be successful.

Hi Lemuel! For my Kaplan extension, I don't have to pay since I failed last time. I think same goes with Hurst as well, like they're going to refund you if ever you fail. As for me, I graduated 6 yrs ago and never worked as an RN..I am giving myself more time to study. It detected my weakness and just throw a lot of questions about procedures. So I am a candidate for more than 2 months studying.hehe :D
