i took my nclex yesterday and ended up in 76 questions, went home and got the cc page in PVT. everyone in this forum who got the cc page end up failing. i am so devastated but i have to move on, i admit that i did not focus well on studying thinking that nclex is same as the Phil board exam, plus i have 2 jobs, so i did only 100 questions a day. i am doing saunders 4th edition, the 5th ed cd, kaplan review book and PDA but still i failed. now for those who failed and passed, could you give me some advise? i am planning to stop on my other job just to study for this nclex, i will be taking it again within 45 days. i want to know if KAPLAN online course is worth the penny. hoping for your response. please lift me up... thanks

I hope you don't decide to study beyond 2 months!

I said the MAX (most) time to study for the NCLEX is two months-no more.

I used Kaplan's book and signed up for the free test taking and practice NCLEX exams. For an online review, NCSBN (makers of NCLEX) have a 3-week, 5-week and 8-week course with content and exam questions, each with a set passing requirement of 70%.

It has a TON of content, but their questions are similar to the NCLEX. I paid for the three week course to have access to the questions. Way cheaper than the Kaplan course, for questions that were similar and familiar to the NCLEX? Priceless.

how many questions per content does the NCSBN has? that's what i was thinking to, because they are the makers of NCLEX, then the questions would probably as close to the real NCLEX.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about doing the hurst but came across NCSBN and thought it would be good idea because they are the makers of NCLEX. I'm also going to use the PDA book. It will be my taking it for the second time and this time I will be successful.

yes, we should not give up and we can make it!!

OP, after getting your performance review, please don't overlook your strong areas as well. For your studying, you may concentrate just on your weak spots and forget about your strong ones, which may make them weak. It might be just your luck of getting questions with the familiar context, thus making that particular area appearing strong. Don't put too much weight into the performance review as it may not be 100% accurate.

thank you so much for your advise, i am just dying to see my result so that i can start my review. coz i feel that my result will be my basis on where to start first. i will start all over again but study first with my weakest point.

thanks, that's what i'm planning do... 1-2 hours on my working days and 6-8hours in my days off. but can i do it within the span of two months?

Maybe. But you have to also remember the weekend or day before an exam. Your gonna wanna hit the books even harder around those times.

Sorry, I responded wrong the first time, but you should be fine, just stay focused!

After taking test today, I can honestly say that Kaplan prepared me for the test. I purchased both: Hurst and Kaplan.

Hurst is AWESOME for content review. However, Kaplan qBank is good for practicing answering questions.

I had questions on NCLEX that were similar to those I was practicing at home with Kaplan.

Kaplan is not easy and sometimes you may feel that scores are you getting are not good enough (I was as scoring form 50% to 70%. My average was 61%)

I passed today with 117 questions.

congrats Miss_Piggy!! i am definitely getting kaplan. i will take the NCLEX this november, gonna earn money for august and start reviewing september.

Paid for Kaplan did everything they had to offer and failed. Got money back, not extending with them learned all I can from them and it was not enough. Instead of spending tons of money this time, I got 6 books for FREE at my local library! Hello why didn't I think of that before. Tons of help on Pinterest too. So many people making Nclex review boards on there. Right now I paid for 5 week review with Ncsbn~kind of bored, need more. So thinking of taking my money I got back from Kaplan and investing in Hurst online review to get the videos. Wish they were somewhere for free like the books I'm using. Good luck. But if content is needed, like I found out the hard way Kaplan is NOT enough!

what i did on my first try is doing the self- review. i have PDA, saunders and kaplan. i have 2 jobs, so i can't read all of them at the same time. i think what i needed now is a company that will help me on my study plan. i am thinking about kaplan and hurst. and in the poll that i made, kaplan has 86% votes and hurst has 14%. i think i would go with kaplan, i sure hope that they have the study plan to guide me.

just an update: i just received my result in NCLEX RN exam:

i've got 3 above passing scores: MAnagement of care, Health promotion and maintenance, and Psychosocial integrity.

the rest in below the passing rate.

i am still deciding bet hurst and Kaplan.

Like you I had 2 jobs tried the self review failed, ran out of time. I'm also a grad from the Philippines. Took the nclex today and got a good pop up. I think you should consider hurst. Most of the topics discussed were on the exam. I akso used nclex 4000 and PDA. Kaplan is more practice centered. You might need some content review.
