Failed NCLEX - need advice

Nursing Students NCLEX

So I just found out through my quick results I failed at my first attempt. I used Kaplan and I think I need a program with solid content review. Has anyone used Hurst and thought that it was a good source?

Also, I know I have to wait 45 days to retake the exam. Do I have to wait for 24 hours before I try to reschedule on Pearson Vue?

Hi, rubyola. I'm so sorry for your results. :( I took hurst, and it was a decent review of all body systems. The core content was helpful for only a few questions for me, but the test taking suggestions that they put at the end were very helpful. I did not regret taking it, and recommend it if you feel like you need to review each body system in detail.

I passed my NCLEX in 75 questions on my first attempt and firmly believe that I would not have passed had it not been for me taking the hurst review. I took the hurst live review lecture in March and then retook the live review (you get a free repeat) a few weeks prior to me taking the NCLEX. In between the two, I studied a chapter or so from time to time and made sure I really understood the content before moving forward to a different chapter. I also recorded myself reading the book out loud and listened to it when laying out by the pool or on long car rides. I'm a HUGE auditory learner so by listening to it, it really helped me zone in on the content. I took the q reviews the week before my test and was scoring average. Some were above the recommended average and I had a few that were below. They do a great job at zoning in on important content and teach it in a way that is easy to remember. I suffered from severe test taking anxiety all throughout nursing school and when taking the NCLEX but using the hurst strategies, it allowed me to breath and take my time.

Not everyone feels the same about hurst, some people even disliked it and felt it didn't prepare them but I would recommend it to anyone who asks me and I definitley think you should give it a go. They even offer a refund if you do not pass the exam after taking their review.

Thank you both. I think I need some solid content review and I didn't feel like Kaplan did that for me. I think I'll give Hurst a try. I'll still have Kaplan for a while so I can continue to do those questions after I do Hurst review.

I'll have to learn to overcome by test anxiety, hopefully Hurst will work for me like it did for you FutureTX_RN759

Try Uworld! Their questions are just like NCLEX and they have great rationales. They offer a free trial if you would like to try it!

I am currently using the HURST review and their videos does not seem to be comprehensive as I thought it would be. It does help as a refresher, but I believe that Saunders can do the same thing if not better. If you core content is what you are lacking, I would definitely study saunders; however, if it is test taking strategies I would focus on answering as much questions as possible and get the hang of how to answer them. I have been told that the Qbank questions are harder than the actual NCLEX.

They are, on hurst.

Hurst is a little too easy for some reason

Hurst Review is a very good review program for content. I recommend it wholeheartedly if you have issues with understanding "why" a disease occurs and its effects on the body. But, I don't recommend putting all your faith in Hurst. You must have a main review book like Saunders Comprehensive review for the NClex-RN 5th edition w/ CD to answer questions. You must regularly (I recommend EVERY DAY) practice answering 75 to 265 NCLEX style questions to train your brain to think in the NCLEX-RN way and test your knowledge and critical thinking skills.

You cannot schedule an exam with Pearson Vue until you have an ATT (authorization to test) number. You cannot get that number until you reapply for permission to take the test. So.....back to the BoN, get the ATT, then contact PV.

Good luck.

Heyyy do you guys know about tutoring called tootRN? Or any other good tutors in NY or who does virtual?
