Didn't study enough!!!!

When i took boards last year, I swore that I would do at least 50 questions a day for a month. That lasted about 1 week..then I started my GN job, studied again for about 2 days before my NCLEX doing some review questions..didnt study at all the day before, and went and took my test @ 10 AM then went to work right afterwards!

I had 75 questions, it took me 55 minutes, and I passed :)

So nope, I didnt study enough (according to the schools who said 100 questions a day and at least 5000 questions before you take the NCLEX)

But I did pass!

I just took the NCLEX in early January (the first in my class to take it), and I had one study book (Lippincott), in which I answered about 250 questions total. I was lucky enough to have taken a review class offered at my school during the last 4 saturdays of the semester (eight hours per saturday). I was sick the whole week prior to taking NCLEX with strep throat, so no studying then! I was also still weak from having been sick. I passed the NCLEX with 76 questions, and found it pretty straightforward. If you are confident in your critical thinking skills and are a pretty good test-taker, then I think you have the best chance for passing with little study or preparation. Did you take the ATI predictor? I did pretty well on that one, although I found it slightly easier than the NCLEX.

I figured, if I don't know it by now, then I won't know it. What is the use of cramming when anything from many broad areas can be on it? How many people can really remember the practice questions they answered while studying for the NCLEX?

To answer your question, it is doable, but each person taking the exam is different, with different weak areas and areas that they could and should be improving on before taking the exam. Good luck to you, you are almost there.

I certainly didn't go nuts with studying. I took my test about 3 months after we graduated and didn't get really serious about studying until 2 weeks before. I used the Saunders CD some but it wasn't my favorite. It went way indepth into topics (way more than we did in school) and i usually ended up feeling rather dumb after taking their tests!! Anyways I took my test and got 85 questions and passed. Good luck to you!!!

One of my classmates challenged the NCLEX last WEDNESDAY and passed. We just graduated 2 weeks ago and at the same time, we took a 2 week course of KAPLAN Comprehensive review. He said that he never touched the course book(made him feel sleepy) and just studied the notes he had during the 2 week review. He said that he used the strategies and also for the meds, he did not memorize them. He just used the suffixes whiche helped out (e.g "ONE"--steroid, "LOL"

I did some questions, but I don't think it totalled 100/day. I did finish Saunders and felt pretty prepared for NCLEX. Worked out fine.

Hi, I was also worried about study time. I only studied for a total of maybe 10 hours. I was working full time and I have children, hardly time for sleep. I did take the boards on the 9th of June, last Friday and just found out this morning that I passed. I had 75 questions and it took me about an hour to take. I think there is to much emphasis placed on the boards and therefore it increases our anxiety levels. View at as any other test and relax! This is how I chose to look at it and I believe it helped me. There really is no way to prepare anyways. Just know your main lab values like Sodium, Potassium, BUN, and CREA, etc. You wil be just fine if you choose to not doubt yourself, there is no room for doubt! Go forward and keep your head up,

I went through some test questions, just to get familiar with the format. But i never really reviewed or studied, because i just don't feel that this is something that can be studied for, i either knew the material or didn't. And passed on the first try, i think it stopped at 83 or 84.

I did NCLEX questions like 250-300/day for the last week!!! haha--I study SOOOO much..probably too much but I passed with 75 questions. KAPLAN paid off.

I also took KAPLAN, the classroom portion sucked in my opinion, but the online questions and QBANK for two weeks prior paid off big.
