Are You Man Enough to Be a Nurse?

Nurses Men

Published

I have problems with the image of nurses and the assumptions people make about them.

I've met plenty of driven, multitalented, ambitious people who want to help patients in different and more comprehensive ways than a doctor could.

But I don't care about negative images. I will achieve my goals, despite how many comments from ignorant people I get to the contrary. Posters like this help kick those stereotypes in the ***.

Interesting!

I hope you guys don't take over! ?

Looks like an interesting campaign. I think a litttle testosterone will go A LONG way in the nursing profession.

Look at Tweety, Timothy, Corvette Guy and Zenman, 4 of my heros!

As a chick, I'm thrilled to see more men in the profession!

Do any of the guys in this campaign post here?

I think this is a great campaign, and I was surprised when I found out it originated in Oregon!

Specializes in Hospice/Palliative Care, Critical care, Burns.

Would loved to have seen an LPN included in the mix...I guess the stereotypes never die

Specializes in MICU & SICU.

My perdiction here is that we will see more men going into to nursing as our country continues to eliminate manufacturing jobs and corporate downsizing continues. Nursing jobs will be on the rise for the next few decades. There are still some that are stuck on a stigma of what a nurse looks like instead of a person who is a qualified caretaker. This is a good ad to show the public and promote males in nursing.

Specializes in Telemetry, OR, ICU.

I am. Cool poster.

There will be more men in the field but as it stands, there aren't that many who are applying for nursing school. Take for instance. We have 5 males out of 56 students. 10% ... sounds like the norm right?

As of like 2 years ago the nation avg or male nurses was 5%. I am thinking it is probably getting closer to 10 though from hearing numbers of males in nursing school. I have my first orientation for nursing school on the 22nd Ill try and remember to relay how many guys out of 55 we have. I know at least 1, yay me.

I wonder if I can get one of thes posters for my wall and to send to my brother??? He'd make and EXCELLENT nurse!
