    What about male students?
  2. As of like 2 years ago the nation avg or male nurses was 5%. I am thinking it is probably getting closer to 10 though from hearing numbers of males in nursing school. I have my first orientation for nursing school on the 22nd Ill try and remember to relay how many guys out of 55 we have. I know at least 1, yay me.
  3. When I first switched to nursing I was asking if classes were ever weighted, as in a C in Chem one being worth more than a C in principles of Chem. When I was told no I asked why. Worst responce ever, "Who is to say its a harder class?" I was dumbfounded with that responce. I chose to take principles of chem and the A&P combo class AFTER taking A&P seperate and the cadaver anatomy lab and chem I & II. Those were some boring As I must say.
  4. I switched from Pre-med to nursing. I had all of my general ed classes and all but organic done for premed. I switched to nursing and start in Aug after only 5 years and 100 credit hours, woo hoo.
  5. I live in Kansas and applied last year with a 31 ACT score and a 3.0 GPA but didnt get in. Last year it came down to the fact that I lived in a different county than the school was in, with the residency I would have gotten in. I took some remedial classes simply to raise me GPA to a 3.5 and moved to the county of the school, I start in Aug. While I was beligerant mad about having to take classes like principles of chem after having completed chem I and chem II I did start working as a PCT and I think the experience will help me immensely in school.
  6. I went from manual labor to waiting tables to bartending. I am currently a PCT that starts nursing school in Aug. I think that that works as a good transition, but I am also pretty sure that few people have made the same changes.
  7. I had a somewhat similar experience. I didn't get into nursing school last year simply because the school I was applying to gave preference to the residence of the county it was in. I spent another year taking some remedial classes to raise my GPA and moved to the county. In addition I decided to seek a job as a PCT or patient care tech, the new version of a nurse aide. I didnt think I would be able to find a job with no experience that could compete with what I was making bartending but I did. I got a really good job at a great place for gaining experience making enough money to get by in school, and far more this semester when I was simply waiting to hear if I got in for next year. I got in for this august for an ADN program and cannot wait. Gotta thank connections, my step-sister is an RRT there and said I was worth training, gotta love fate. I just hope my mom's connections with a couple the CEO's of big hospitals in the area can get me into ICU as son as possible once I am done.
  8. Ehh what can you do? just buy more toys than the guys who give the look and get a cuter gf.
  9. I have been working as a Nurse Aide for about 6 months now after not getting into nursing school last year due to living in a different county than the school. I think it has been really good experience and while I regret having to wait a year I think it will be well worth it.
