Hi DerrickCleveland,

If you're taking pre-reqs now, that means you'll start the core program in September, right? Yeah, we at campus at the same time as the RN program is 5p-11p as well. I'll PM you my facebook and email address. Hopefully we'll see each other on campus soon:)

Hey CLUVPN,

Could you explain the scope of an LPN? I was in an RN program here in Georgia, but I don't think that school was for me, so I am transferring to an LPN program, acquire the skills, then bridge. Any information would help!

Well, LPN's can work in a variety of settings, such as nursing homes, jails, home health, private duty, clinics, etc. However, hospitals (at least the ones in South Florida) have eliminated the role of the LPN and have demoted them to the role of PCT (basically a glorified CNA). As an LPN, you work under the supervision of an RN. As far as skill set, LPN's can do pretty much what an RN can (except some IV skills, such as hanging blood, IV push, etc). RN's are basically the managers/coordinators of the health care team. LPN's are trained in basic bedside nursing care. You say you're in Georgia, were you looking to relocate to Florida? At my school one can complete their LPN program then automatically bridge to the RN program. I have a classmate the graduated from the school's LPN program in February, and then immediately bridged to the RN program, which we all started about a week ago. So if I were in you're shoes, I would get the LPN first, get a job (as in order to bridge to the RN at my school you must be employed), then do the RN bridge. Hoped that answered your question!:)

@CLUVLPN I am looking into begining the program for LPN to RN at ANHO. I would love to chat with you about the program. I as well went to PBSC for classes first. I can't PM you personal info, as I am a new register. My questions are about the begining process, how the program flows and actual or additional cost from a student perspective! How far along are you in the program now?

Thanks Shanna

Hi Shanna,

First off, it's good that you got your pre-reqs done first (I'm assuming those are the classes you are referring to that were taken at PBSC). Prereqs at AHNO are about $5K. So with that said, the bridge program is a little over $15K, which includes tuition, books, physical and labwork (which are required prior to beginning clinicals), uniforms, clinical kit, and NCLEX fees. It is preferred that you have work experience as an LPN prior to applying to the program. You have to complete an entrance test (easy!) and provide a letter of recommendation (preferably from an employer). Also, a LPN transcript has to be provided as well as a college transcript showing the prereqs completed. Usually, the school admits about 100 students three times a year. My class started in May of this year and will graduate May 2014. The program is rigorous and fast paced. You must be on top of things or you will surely fall behind and it will be VERY difficult to catch up. (Not intending to scare you, just being realistic). A couple the students have dropped out already. We have just finished Med Surg and RN Role and will begin Ob and Peds on Monday. It is a good program with a high NCLEX pass rate. However, be ready to have no life for a year! Hope this has answered your questions! BTW-thanks for the friend request:)

Hi CLUVLPN,

I actually have the prereqs, physical and lab work done :) I am working currently as an LPN (St. Mary’s EH nurse) and supplied the letter of recommendation. I asked about the entrance exam and they said I didn’t need to take it. Maybe because I didn’t go to LPN school but failed out of RN school previously? Not sure either way if it is easy—lay it on me :). I have also given them my college and high school transcripts. I also look forward to the fast pace. I really would like to know about the actual class. How often do they test you? Is the program self paced, as in can you move through faster? Is it computerized or paper? Do the classes really run 5-11pm M-Th or is extra time needed? How are clinicals done? Tell me about the fee schedule? When do you pay for classes? I am not wealthy but don’t usually qualify for aid. I am hoping to find out my appointment with financial aid today. I guess my two main concerns are cost (isn’t everyone’s?) and time. I felt like with PBSC they never wanted to help anyone, I was a number not a student. I can’t quit my job so I need to know they can coincide and succeed. :) I appreciate your time…………..you have been extremely helpful.
