Is anyone a student here? I am doing their gen ed program which goes from May 15-Aug 23 2012 and then I start the actual 11 month bridge program in September. If you are a student here, please tell me about the cirriculum, the clinicals, and your overall impression of the program. Thanks a bunch!

Hi. am starting in Sept 2013. I see that its going to be alot of hard work. I would like to know about the testing. Do the lectures helps with the exams? Do they provide the necessary tool to help the student to succeed because some schools do not.. thanks for you post..very informational

SAV2010

I posted some questions above that maybe you can answer. Have you been approved and for sure sitting in class? I am still in process and really hoping to get in. Please tell me about financial aid and the remaining steps. Have they told you when payment is due? Do they provide you a schedule like PBSC did?

@SAV2010 and LPN2RN13- Sorry for taking a while to answer. Working fulltime and going to school fulltime makes coming on here difficult. So Sav2010, you're starting in September. Expect for there to be about 100 people in your class. This lasts about six weeks after which the class gets split into two groups. There are currently 42 people in my class and we have clinicals Mon and Tues from 5p-11p (although we usually get out of there around 10:15p) and lecture Wed and Thurs 5p-11p (well 10:30p). LPN2RN13, I'm glad that you have submitted all your paperwork to be admitted to the school. And you're very lucky to not have to take the entrance exam (I wonder when they changed that rule?). In respect to financial aid, you usually have to have that all sewn up prior to beginning class. I didn't qualify for grants because I made too much last year and have no dependents and am single, so I had to pay about about $4,500 out of pocket and the remainder I covered with a federal loan. They'll let you know what if any you have to pay out of pocket at your financial aid appointment. In regards to the curriculum, our tests are usually about 65 questions, with about 10 select all that apply questions thrown in (which usually are the questions that cause people to flunk the test). The tests are worth 55% of your grade, the final is worth 40% of your grade and the quizzes are worth %5. Quizzes are usually pharmacology and are about 20 questions. We have a few projects thrown in as well that affects your grade in various ways as well. The tests are no joke. They are difficult and you must think critically about your answer (even then it may be incorrect). DO NOT change answers on your tests! This really messes up people. If you fail a test, your allowed one retake. If you choose to do the retake and score lower than your original test, that retake grade will be your grade for that test. In other words, they don't average the two test scores or take the score that was higher. So if you got a 70 on the first test then did the retake and got a 68, the 68 is what's recorded for that particular test. My advice is, pass the first time (78 is passing) so you never have to do a retake. There are retakes for everything, even finals. As far as clinical, usually there is 2-3 care plans/nurses notes due by the end of the rotation. Just get involved and never stand around doing nothing as it looks bad on our clinical group and will cause us not to be invited back to that site. BTW-We were just at St. Mary's for our Med-Surg rotation:) Lectures are what you make of it. I personally do better reading the material on my own. What else can I tell you? There is one saving grace for people who are struggling: You can fail a class and pass what is call a SAT (Stand Alone Test) for that class and still be able to graduate. If you fail a SAT and its retake (yes, there is a retake SAT), then you will have to repeat the entire Med-Surg class over again with the next incoming class and therefore you will not graduate on time. I hope these answers helped some. Let me know if you have any more questions. BTW-When do you plan on actually entering the program?

@LPN2RN13..CLUVLPN pretty much sums it up about the financial aid. Financial aid is available if qualified. I had to use loans and pay some out of pocket. All payments are due before the first day of class. I have been approved and waiting to start class in Sept2013. I was told that we will get our schedule on the day of orientation. Thanks for all the information CLUVLPN, it really helped me to get an idea of what to expect. Best of luck ladies!!!

@ CLUVLPN and SAV2010, You have HELPED SOOOO MUCH!

CLUVLPN -- I am hopeing to be in with SAV2010 in September! (and I will feel like I have friends entering :)) All I am waiting on is the finacial aid appointment. I to am married but no children and will be working full time. So I'm certain that loans will have to be the way. But hopefully I can cover it all and move along quickly. Fingers Crossed they call me today with a Financial Aid appointment!

Can I ask your first names? I am Shanna. Again I thank you both for all your help. I really do appreciate it!

Destinemightynurse- Well you never know until you ask. September classes I think start the 16th. If you apply and get your financial aid squared away I don't see why you can't start in September. If not the next class starts early next year. Good luck to you!
