Nursing Students LPN-RN

Is anyone a student here? I am doing their gen ed program which goes from May 15-Aug 23 2012 and then I start the actual 11 month bridge program in September. If you are a student here, please tell me about the cirriculum, the clinicals, and your overall impression of the program. Thanks a bunch!

@ zanfelhor- Yeah, I was at Excelsior. Got to the FCCA, failed it, decided Excelsior wasn't for me after all and enrolled in a brick and mortar bridge program instead. I'm glad I did it this way. My program is tough but they have a near perfect NCLEX pass rate, so I know that I will be well prepared when its time to take boards. Are you a bridge student through Excelsior?

@CLUVLPN, I secured my seat. I have to go Monday and pay the balance (not to much) I really hope that its not only intense but that it is fast paced. I have questions about testing. How often do you test? Do you have the schedule available that you could send me?fax is 5618406024. When is your last scheduled day and how long after is Graduation? Are the test computerized or paper? Can I bring in earplugs? Im not a good test taker if there are distractions :nailbiting:

@LPN2RN13- The testing schedule depends on the class, all classes are on different testing schedules. For example, my cohort tests on Wed and Thurs because we have clinical on Mon and Tues. The class that we split from (remember I told you at the beginning of the year you start out as one big class then you split into A and B groups six weeks in?) tests on Mon and Tues and have clinical Wed and Thurs. But in general, for RN Role and Med Surg there were three major tests, four quizzes, and the final. My last scheduled day is May 22 of 2014. Some graduates of the program have told me that graduation is going to be approximately one week later. I've also learned that many of the students who had completed the Leadership class (the last class of the program) had already taken and passed their boards prior to Graduation Day. So I guess NCLEX will be sometime in May. Tests are on Scantrons which the instructor runs through the computer to grade. Earplugs are not allowed. My advice is to sit in the front so that you can tune out the distracting people, who usually sit in the back. Sorry, I don't have a fax machine, so the best way for exchanging info that can't be shared on here is through email. What's your email address?

@CLUVLPN

I've been reading all the comments regarding the ANHO. How did you do? I am currently a student at PBSC. I have completed all class requirements and have passed the Hesi exam. I'm striving on getting accepted into the nursing program at PBSC, however looking for a second option - just in case ... bc their nursing program is very competitive. I read on other institution's reviews and learned that it is very difficult to find a credible school other than PBSC, PBA or FAU.. but my goal is to earn RN first then BSN later.. What's your advice? Please Help!

I'm interested In this school but I don't know about the drive. I'm in Lauderdale. :(

Well, the first month and a half were rocky but things have smoothed out since I've gotten into the swing of things. ANHO's way of doing things are a complete 180 from PBSC. Not to say one school is better than the other; they're just different. PBSC, as you say, is very competitive. ANHO is not. All you need is an LPN license and $15K. I'm not sure if PBSC has an LPN bridge program or do they just have the generic nursing program that will essentially make the LPN start all over again from scratch?

At ANHO, you must be an LPN and the bridge program is a year. Yes, I think ANHO would be a good plan B in case things don't work out at PBSC. After all, PBSC is cheaper and the credits will transfer over easier when you pursue your BSN. Just don't forget that if your objective is to get an RN license (every nursing student's goal), ANHO will get you there as well as they have a near perfect NCLEX first time pass rate. Hope this helps!

Yeah, the drive is a killer for some people, but we do have the a couple students who are willing to do what they got to do in order to get what they want. One girl drives up all the way from Miami, one that lives in Lauderdale, and believe it or not, two girls that carpool together all the way down from Palm Bay (Palm Bay is two hours north from West Palm Beach). My two friends who graduated from the program last year commuted from Port Saint Lucie and Davie (an hour north and an hour south of the school, respectively). To me, Fort Lauderdale isn't that far (maybe an hour?) and if my nursing school was down there I'd make the drive. However, some people hate having to brave rush hour South Florida traffic to be at school by 5pm, so I can empathize. What about Broward College? Have you looked at that school? I think its in your area.

Yeah. I was thinking that too. If I really want it (which I do) then I'll make the drive. BCC is 10 mins from my house but its longer like 18 months. Ain't nobody got time fo dat!

With this school, do you have to be a working lpn for a year at least?

@CLUVLPN. My email is [email protected] or [email protected] (either one)

I actually have had several people comining in who are in doing thier prerequisites. I have seen some of thier orientation sheets :) I feel like Im getting early infomation. Do you remember orientation? for the two day, what all do they cover?

@CLUVLPN Yes! Thanks for taking the time in giving us helpful information.

I think it is very much preferred that you have working experience as an LPN as it would look better on your application to the school, but it is not required.
