I got in the 1+1 program!

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hey guys,

I got into OSU-OKC's 1+1 program! For those of you who arent familiar with it, its basically the same as a trad RN program ONLY, the first year is an LPN curriculum and assuming you pass the LPN board you are guranteed a spot in the 3rd semester of RN school.

Is anyone else in a 1+1 program???

I'm just a little nervous about the whole thing. I think it's mostly because I wont be spending the full 2 years in RN school, it'll only be 1 yr instead. I feel like I'm going to have to prove myself to the other nursing students when I come in the 3rd semester. They say the LPN students are pretty prepared to start 3rd semester, but it still feels like I'm at a disadvantage. I dont know. Any thoughts???

Congratulations! It sounds similar to what we did with the bridge. I was worried that I would be behind especially because I went to a totally different school for my LPN but was happily surprised that I was right where I needed to be. The RN students were so kind and generous to me in helping me get the hang of the new program. I hit the ground running and graduated among the top in the class. Go in with an open mind and friendly smile and hopefully you will have great classmates also.

One student that i know that attended lpn school was so glad that she went to lpn school first, it helped her be more successful in her rn program. Good luck

Congrats! I got my LPN via a 1+1 program last December and now I am in the first semester of the second year for my RN. It's been the hardest thing that I have ever done but you can't beat doing your pre-reqs, LPN, and RN in two years flat. Now, I am working as an LPN part-time and it's great because I am gaining experience and even better than that, I'm not broke like I was last year when I was going through the LPN year.

I feel like the second year (so far) is really a very thorough review of what we learned during first year. I'm not having a hard time keeping up with school and working at the same time.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I too heard that LPNs actually have a an advantage in the aspect of clinical experience because they spend more time on the floor in the program than the RN students. Hopefully you guys are right. Nevertheless, I am so excited!!! The plan is to get my ASN then go straight in to the RN-BSN program at OU. By May 2011, I should have my BSN!!

Oh, by the way... what do you guys think about working during the LPN program? Is it impossible? I went through a dental assisting program and was able to work with no problem... Can I work during the LPN without hurting my studies???

I just graduated from PN school and didn't work for a whole year. However, some students did and had very good grades. Its all up to you. Just do your best!

Congrats! I just started the day program at Metro Tech and plan to bridge straight to RN next Fall. I had a friend who went through OSU-OKC's 1+1 last year, and actually she said she felt very, very prepared and thought that MT did a better job preparing her than OSU-OKC simply because at MT she had two 12-hr clinicals each week, and had a lot of "hands on" time. She said the main difference was that once starting the RN part it was a lot more bookwork and study time involved.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great  My friend just got into OCCC 1+1 at metro tech and I'm jealous :p

 that is awesome! thank you so much for sharing. i have not heard of that. i am graduating in one week from lpn school and i plan on going back for rn. just not right now. as for working, yes it is possible. i have a family of 7 children, a husband, two dogs (children is more like it) and a cat! (sorry for the weird humor). you give up alot, but what you get back, is worth so much more!

Lots of my friends are doing this program. I decided to go and work first ...then, Ill go for it. I worked so hard in the LPN program, needed a break. Your post is a real inspiration to me and gets my 'want to be an RN' juices flowing.

Congrats, and good luck.
