I just Grad. in Sept. and just got my license. I am about to get discauraged I can not find a job. It seems like there are no entry level jobs out there. Are we supposed to Grad. with 1-3yrs experance. I have been at a local hospital for two years as a phlebotomist and even they say it my be Feb or March before I can go to the floor:imbar . Is anyone else having this prob? I even had one HR tell me that they could give me a job tomarrow as a Phleb, or aid, and maybe I should think about just working as one of these until I can get my RN:angryfire . I have put in apps. in three states and so far nothing. Just wanted to vent.

LPN FINALLY.

Specializes in LTC/Sub Acute Rehab.

Im a new grad from Ohio who hasn't gotten her ATT and to make matters to worse I moved to a new city within Ohio. Up until TODAY I found a job in LTC which is just fine with me. All I can tell you is REVISE THAT RESUME AND WRITE A COVER LETTER AND SEND THEM BOTH TOGETHER TO ANYONE WHO IS HIRING! If you dont want to lose your position at the hospital, my suggestion would be to apply somewhere PRN or PART-TIME until what you want becomes available at the hospital. My problem was I couldnt find a job so I did what any DESPERATE UNEMPLOYED NEW GRAD WOULD DO, I sent my resume and cover letter to anyone who had an ad in the paper or the internet and faxed it to them whether or not they were hiring new grads or not. I figured, the only thing they could tell me was "No".

So, do what you feel is going to best suit you in getting the experience you need as a LPN/LVN! Let us all know how it works out!:)

1st congrats on the licsence. As An LPN for the last 5yrs. Although I didnt have to look hard as I already was in the state system where i worked while schooling. I agree that LPN positions are few and far between other than LTC. I understanding your not working in certain aspects. For me I cannot see myself working anything other than geriatrics. Dementia comes with the territory. But there is something about the older population. They are full of Pearls of wisdom. The simplest thing can make me smile. I would recommend looking into your state civil service if you want to get into a goverment job. There are plenty of opportnuties there, many offer $$$ for cont education and some even offer education leave like my job where i can go to school on holidays, weekends i work. Its a great offer. go to google and type in civil service for your state, and look for vacancies.. good luck

Try working in a nursing home. It gives a lot of experience and is very rewarding.

Congrats on passing the boards! My advice would be to quickly do a bridge program to become an RN. I have been an LPN for quite awhile and finally went back to school for my RN. I am to graduate in May. It is SAD that we as LPNs are not respected for knowledge as nurses, they push us out of the hospitals amoungst a nursing shortage. I currently work in long term care as an LPN, I would consider applying there. It is awesome that you chose to get your LPN first, this will help you keep everything in focus. I myself started as a CNA, then LPN, and now I am to graduate soon as an RN. I feel that I can truely respect what each of these professionals do, for I have been there myself. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Please Help.... I passed the nclex and should have my license by the end of this week. I have searched many hospital websites near Dallas/Fort worth and can't find a single one with lvn/lpn positions. What happened to all the nursing shortages? are lvns extinct in hospital settings? I dread going back to LTC. But it seems like the only option available.

I'm hoping to find a job soon so that I could go back to school for my RN.

Any advice or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Plaza Medical Center hires LVNs, but I heard the pay is really low. Good luck on landing a hospital job.

I am also a new LVN grad living in California. I graduated 11/18/05 and am waiting for my ATT to take the NCLEX. I am four classes away from applying to the RN program but like many of you wanted to get some experience working as an LVN since I came from working in law for 25 years (I'm 48). It is scary as they seem to be wanting only RNs in most of the hospitals here in California too. But there are still jobs. The RNs need us from what they tell me. I can't understand what the hospitals are thinking. I am hoping to work med/surg for one year and then bridge into the RN program. Can anyone please tell me how long you studied for NCLEX. I have been studying for about four weeks and hope to take the test end of January/February. Does two months seem like enought time to study for it. I really need to pass it first time. I graduated as an honor student (A) from my LVN program, but as I go through the NCLEX books, I feel like I know nothing sometimes as I'm only scoring in the sixties or seventies on my tests. Any advice is most appreciated and good luck to you all. Thank you in advance for any encouragement or help.

You can do it oldernursingstudent. Just keep studying and remember to use your ABC's and Maslows heirarchy to answer some of the questions. Airway is always first, breathing then circulation. And if I remember correctly it is physiological aspect and then safety and so on and so on. As far as pharmacology goes it is just remembering what its for and the side effects. I am using saunders nclex pn and nclex pn made easy. I will take my exam this coming summer and I have found that I get more proficient the more questions that I answer. The very best of luck to you on the nclex and with your career.:D
