LPN pay in nursing home

Hi! I'm an LPN in central Ohio. I have 4 years working experience, not in LTC though. I have two interviews coming up, so it would be nice to have a general idea of what to expect in that aspect. My question is, what is a fair starting hourly wage to aim for or expect when starting a new job in a nursing rehab/ LTC facility, with 2 yrs home.care/supervisor exp. , and Zero LTC exp ?.

My last position in LTC as an LPN was 10 years ago (part time, as I was employed regularly at a hospital), was $15.25/hr, which I believed was a slap in the face for 20 years of experience when, meanwhile, a few miles down the road, I was making $28/hr at my hospital job. But I soon learned that other LPNs were making far less than that at that particular LTC. I accepted it because, in addition to that special place in my heart for our elderly, the extra income could be of use, but I didn't want to earn it with additional hours on a med-surg unit. This was in Metro Atlanta in 2006. Hopefully those wages have increased for less-experienced LPNs by now.

I just started recently as a new grad at two facilities, one of them LTC and the other is a Crisis Stabilization Unit. The LTC job is 12 hour night shifts and the pay is $22/hr as a new grad, plus shift diff. The Crisis Stabilization Unit is days, part time, and pays about $29/hour. A lot of people from my graduating class rushed to gobble up all the low paying jobs and are making less than $19/hour, many of them around $17/hour. It's better to "shop around" and work someplace you want to and that pays well. It may only seem like a couple bucks an hour difference but every dollar an hour is another $2,000+/year. That's the difference between making $40k/year and $50k per year sometimes. Good luck to you!

I think I'm one of those that rushes into a lower paying job lol ... next job search I will definitely be more patient and do my research. ThankS!

I got an offer for 17.50 . It was a wonderful facility but I had to turn it down. I know I can be making more:confused:

Just remember that the answers you receive will vary and may not reflect the pay for your particular area. Best thing is to research the wages for LTC in your area. I am in north Iowa and I started at $16.00 an hour and then 6 months later it was $17.00 an hour. I know work via a staffing agency and earn $30.00. Good luck on your search.

Around here the pay is about 14 to 17 average, some places can pay 20/hr but what people who took the 20/hr found out was is that they had three times the work load and twice the smell. You may want to ask if you can shadow for a day before taking a job.

I took a job making 17.50 and I know I could've gotten more if I went into LTC but I plan on bridging next year. Job is pretty laid back and not stressful so mentally it'll be an easier job to have while I bridge.

I might pick up a prn job though
