Average pay for Southern California Lvn?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I've been a LVN for 5 years and gainfully employed for 3 1/2 of those years. My current employer hasn't given raises in 3 years. I love my patients and grateful for the experience/opportunity. I'm not by any means complaining but rather in need of a better paying job. I start school this fall to complete prerequisites for the RN program. I have Vent/Trach, G-Tube, Colostomy care experience and IV Certification. I'm looking in the Inland Empire and surrounding areas. Any suggestions my fellow nurses? Any information you have will be greatly appreciated. ☺

Inasmuch as I have seen a general decrease in (posted) wages in my area of nursing, home health, in the past several years, I really don't know what to tell you.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Due to wage deflation in southern CA, the general range of pay rates will fall into the $14 to $23 hourly range. It is doubtful you'd be offered higher or lower than that.

Specializes in Home health, Addictions, Detox, Psych and clinics..

14 is a joke... I know MA's getting paid more than that.. :(

In addition to what The Commuter said, it all depends on where you work (as in the actual place you work). For Instance, my cousin is a MA at Kaiser and makes $26/hour (but everyone knows it's hard to get into Kaiser)

In addition, Kaiser Permanente is a unionized employer, so their pay grid is going to be significantly higher than all the nonunion workplaces.

Union = More Money

I'm a new grad LVN and working in a SNF in Shafter and my pay is $23/hr. I hear we are paid a bit more than our Bakersfield facility (most of us commute). I have seen job postings listing pay anywhere from $17-22 for one year experience. I was quite surprised I was getting paid that much. I would expect pay down south to be a little more, but I have only seen posted wages lower than what I earn. Btw cost of living is insanely cheap in the San Joaquin Valley.

Specializes in Pediatric.

I make $27 in Northern Cal; I didn't realize there was a wide disparity between So Cal and Nor Cal!

California's a big state; it depends on where you live due to cost of living.

Also, how many years experience do you have?

That's true it's huge here. 6 years:)

Im a new grad LVN in the Inland Empire, there are alot of heath care facilities that are looking for experienced LVN, unfortunately Ive been denied many jobs because of no experience. The pay in this area is depending on who you work for ...Ive seen ranges from $15- 23 and Home health $25-30 per visit. Kaiser pays well, they usually start you off as on call/per diem , which is the best way to get in. Beaver Medical Clinic, Loma Linda Medical Center, Department of Corrections, even the Shierff Department needs LVN .. try Maxium Home Heath and Charter HomeHeath ... its so many out here

Good luck
