A little too proud to be a nurse?

Nurses LPN/LVN

I've been a nurse for a few years now but it still seems very new to me. I love my job and couldn't have chosen a better career. I don't walk down the streets screaming I'm a nurse but if I were to see any nurse key chains, nurse tshirts ,etc. I would get it. I try not to be annoying about the love for my job but I definitely like to express it! Anyone else out there feel the same?

There is nothing wrong with being proud of what you do. Makes you sometimes wish there were more. I make fun of the local fire fighters for always having some kind of FD stuf. But is done in a loving way. I

never be ashamed of what you love doing ... be proud ... scream it out loud if you want to

I have a gold, birthstone, RN, caduceus pendant that I have worn around my neck since I graduated, in 1996. If you love what you do, be proud of it. Any nurse who is ashamed of the profession, probably shouldn't be nursing.

I'm the same way. I love being a nurse and proud of my profession. I buy RN thingy's all the time.

I am nurse, hear me ROAR! :D

I don't have anything against nursing items like keychains, rings, tee shirts, etc even though I don't own any nursing related items myself (I've only been a nurse for a little over a year so maybe my excitement level could change somewhere down the road) but I do have to admit I find the personalized license plates like one I saw this weekend that read "Nurse1" a bit over the top and a tad tacky for my taste.

But then again to each their own and as long as they aren't hurting anyone I shouldn't say anything.

Wow, I didn't think there were any nurses like you out there. On AN you constantly see nurses saying how they hate nursing. RARELY anyone stating how they love it. Glad to hear this.

I too love being a nurse for many, many reasons. And right now I am lucky enough to work with a great group of people.

And interestingly enough, I went into nursing for what some would say are all the wrong reasons: great pay and good job security. So I never say anything bad about people who seem to choose nursing for the alleged benefits because you never know, they might turn out like me and find out they were always meant to do this.

I am currently in LVN school and will be graduating this December. I am VERY proud that I have chosen this profession to be my long lasting career. I've worked extremely hard at it and will continue to do so to advance my education/profession. I think that if you are proud of being a nurse and have come along way to success there is no need to feel ashamed. When people ask me, "what do I do for a living?" I proudly answer back and say, "I'm a nurse!" (even though I haven't completed my schooling I still consider myself a nurse - the passion is there). I too buy lil nursing trinkets here and there. I like to show people that I'm passionate about my profession and that I'm an educated female who's loves to help others! Be proud of being a nurse. Unfortunately, there are some that I've met who disliked being a nurse and continue to do nursing. That makes no sense to me.

I'm planning a nursing tattoo. Old school sailor style. An early twentieth century profile with the Red Cross cap. Roses above and sparrows below with RN between the birds. I figure its the most fitting way for me to show my pride.
