I've been a nurse for a few years now but it still seems very new to me. I love my job and couldn't have chosen a better career. I don't walk down the streets screaming I'm a nurse but if I were to see any nurse key chains, nurse tshirts ,etc. I would get it. I try not to be annoying about the love for my job but I definitely like to express it! Anyone else out there feel the same?
I am currently in LVN school and will be graduating this December. I am VERY proud that I have chosen this profession to be my long lasting career. I've worked extremely hard at it and will continue to do so to advance my education/profession. I think that if you are proud of being a nurse and have come along way to success there is no need to feel ashamed. When people ask me, "what do you do for a living?" I proudly answer back and say, "I'm a nurse!" (even though I haven't completed my schooling I still consider myself a nurse - the passion is there). I too buy lil nursing trinkets here and there. I like to show people that I'm passionate about my profession and that I'm an educated female who loves to help others! Be proud of being a nurse. Unfortunately, there are nurses that I've met who disliked what they do yet they continue to do nursing. That makes no sense to me. ❤???
That was a refreshing post. :) When I first read the title, I thought you meant that you were too proud (as in prideful) to be a nurse. What a pleasant surprise.
Most people have no idea what we do. We're in charge of everything without actually being in charge of everything. And, we're there to advocate for our patients. Ensure they get what they need.
I think that AN you hear a lot of complaining about the job because people want to vent. Also you get the burned out nurses ect. Personaly I love nursing, though I to have posted a rant on occasion. I feel a worth while attitude I have not had in any of my other careers.
As far as being to proud doesnt sound like it to me. Like a previous poster stated you see FD and PD stuff all the time, why not RN stuff
For each class I passed in nursing school, I bought myself a nursing-related statue like Precious Memories, etc. My final purchase was the porcelain, Student Nurse by Lladro. I love my collection. For me it represents my accomplishment. I also bought myself a small gold RN caduceus charm on a gold chain. I did not wear it until I passed the NCLEX and received my license. Becoming a nurse, as a second career, yet fulfilling a lifelong dream, was a very personal thing. I am very proud to be a nurse these 15 years.

If one likes such trinkets and goodies, all the more power to you, I say. I am not so decorative in my style.
