Hi

This week the trust i work in has announced that all nursing staff (all grades) will be asked to reapply for their jobs and be re interviewed!!

I am just wondering if anyone knows whether my trust can do this??? surely to be interviewed for a job means there has to be a vacancy?? does this mean that we will all effectively be made redundant????

Another question i have is, does this mean that we will all have to have new contracts issued???

As you can imagine these rumours have caused us all alot of stress in the last few weeks, i know there are a few nurse managers who post on here, just wondered if anyone had an opinion??

cheers!

to me it sounds wrong and wonder what the unions have to say regarding everyone applying for their own jobs. I wold also imagine they will get you to sign new contracts

As to whether they can do it - what does your current contract say about future changes to it? If it says the trust can reevaluate as they see fit then yep, they can do it.

I heard that few months ago and NHS will really do it. Some nurses are relocated to other cities or NHS branch. PIC's are the heavily affected. Some got Indefinite leave to remain, others still under working visa and never to be renewed again. It's a matter of controlling issuance of visas for PIC's... Another thing is that, hunreds of young fresh nursing graduates have no work available to enter NHS. This is one of the reasons why I wish to leave UK, NHS is becoming unstable and "maybe" soon to be privatised.

I think you'll find that they can do it but it SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Would love to have been able to use other, more choice words but I can't here!

I'm so glad I work in the private sector - the best move I ever made!! It's not a doddle or a cushy number (as many, wrongly think), neither is it better paid (as many also wrongly think) but we do get plenty of training opportunities, funding to attend outside courses or conferences, a nice atmosphere to work in & a real variety of clients & conditions.

Never mind EN you'll be out of it soon enough!!

to be honest i am a bit worried as ive had two periods of sickness this year, both 5/6 weeks long and wonder if they will use this as an excuse to fire me.

As for being out of it before long im not so sure about that either, ive only got until Thursday for it to be sorted out and if the last two days are anything to go by i cant see it happening, i expected an answer one way or the other yesterday but the embassy wasnt contacted so to be honest feel completely fed up.

bascially i suppose 3 months ago this re applying for jobs thing wouldnt have bothered me as i knew i would be off to the USA this year, but after the foul up with paperwork and retrogression coming in at the same time, this has been stopped and now im worried i wont even have the NHS job that i wanted to leave behind.

all in all i think it feels like a bad week really :o i know i shouldnt moan but the whole thing is getting seriously on my nerves.

EN, this is really depressing and I really feel for you. I would be gutted if I had to reapply for my job. How to value and encourage your staff eh??:nono:

well, it turns out that all the professional bodies and trade unions at my hospital are now in dispute with management of my trust, and all staff have been instructed not to take part in this interview process.

sounds interesting lol
