ISU LPN to BSN ..RN Graduate in Washington State.. letter of guidance to such students

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Hello!

I am a recent graduate of an online LPN-BSN program, have successfully passed my NCLEX and am registered now in two states. The program I attended was Indiana State University and it took me a little of 2 years at a mix of PT and FT courses. I worked while attending, and have a family. I made the mistake of getting mixed up with TCN bc thought I needed to, in order to get the challenge exam study material.. they have since eliminated that and are no longer contracted with TCN.. thank goodness! TCN is a waste of money. However, while there were hurdles to over come, if you have the self motivation to stay ontop of tight deadlines, and ability to work with students all over the US and sometimes oversees(military) then this is a FANTASTIC program! I am happy to be a resource for a local Washington LPN should anyone need guidance in their application process or just need someone to vent to that is already in the program:) I want to assist in the success of this program bc that is how much I believe in it! I have seen a lot of questions about ISU on this forum and thought it easiest to set up a new topic thread instead of answering everyone's posts..

I'm a current Excelsior student that is also interested in ISU. The only thing that concerns me is the ability to obtain a clinical site. Currently the wait time for the CPNE is 1yr which is not good at all. I had heard previously that you had to use TCN for study materials sonIm glad to hear that is no longer the case because they tend to misrepresent their role to students. Were you able to get endorsed in CA because that is another concern. Did you take actual classes or is it exam based like execlsior? I've had the hardest time staying motivated with Excelsior because I don't have deadlines like I have when I have taken courses online through other colleges.

The document at LPN-BSN Track Summary Document | College of Health and Human Services will explain must about the track and the courses.

Hello clealto! Thanks for starting this thread. I might be quite late to catch up on this. I used to start with TCN on trying to get my pre-requisites and absolutely wasted my money. Glad to know that they're not with them anymore. How long did it take for you to finish the program? Does ISU provide great support in terms of following up, looking for clinical sites and all. How much was the cost? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Hopefully you will see this and reply! I have been an LPN for two years in the state of Washington and recently have been looking into ISU. I guess I'm holding back because I can't tell if it is a scam or not. The application process seems rather odd to me, how was the application process for you? How did you know you got in? Thank you! I have a lot of questions haha

It's definitely a legitimate accredited alternate route program. Have you contacted the school directly?

As a graduate of ISU's campus ABSN program, it is a state university. It is definitely not a scam and the instructors and staff in the LPN-BSN program care about you getting your BSN. Several years ago California decided to end their agreement with ISU because ISU was competing with California schools for clinical spots and the easiest way was to not renew the agreement at the last minute. Many of the students were left with half a degree and nowhere to finish. ISU stepped up and worked very hard to get an agreement with the VA in California to allow their students to complete their clinicals there outside of California's BON jurisdiction. Several ISU instructors flew out there to get clinical instructors that were willing to help the students get their clinical requirements. The school also arranged with a local hospital to allow several California students to complete clinicals at their hospital. Those students flew to Indiana and several clinical instructors interrupted their summer break to allow those students to complete their clinical requirements. Your BSN degree from ISU will be identical to mine.

Hello,

I have been an LPN for 16 years and would really love to finally go back and get my RN but have to keep working, Does anyone know of any bridge programs in IL that are part time or flexible so that I could continue working and finish. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello, I would like to talk to you about the program. I am currently taking my first few courses and would like to know what to expect as the program advances.

Specializes in Clinical Research.

What are the courses like? Are there quizzes and tests that must be taken at a proctor testing site? Are there papers due? Is it a lot of discussion board postings?
