Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

Aw Lora, what a bummer...I'm sorry you had to go through that :( I hope you stick around and things start looking up for you asap!!! :icon_hug:

Congrats to Victoria, TZ, ahc and Xander!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :balloons::balloons::balloons:

Oh man, it stinks that some school's registration is based on CPR and shots...nothing like pressure!

Does anyone know how many applicants they had for Indy?

I've heard 300 and I've heard 700. Any idea? 700 seems a bit high.

It's probably a pretty good number if the low score cutoff for RN was 207 like someone said earlier. That seems like a pretty 'high' cutoff.

Did you get a form or something for a physical or physician's statement?

So, I called and spoke with the nursing advisor today and she had me come in to schedule the CPR class on June 16th at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne. I ran into the Nursing Director and she stated that this semester was very competitive and that only 60 students got in. She stated something about working on our CPR, immunization records, and physicals, but to hold off on our background checks and drug screens. We were interrupted and I didn't get the whole jist so I am going to go ahead with everything because I am not sure what she meant. I am glad I got signed up for the CPR class, but I am a little uncertain as to how to go about the physical and the immunization stuff. I am currently trying to gather up my immunization records, but I know I need to get the hepatitis shots and I haven't been TB tested in the last year. I suddenly feel so overwhelmed. Congratulations ahcgirl, VictoriaM, and everyone else that finally got their acceptance letters for Fort Wayne. I feel like we should be celebrating.

I'm celebrating tonight!!

I just started everything. I scheduled an appt. for my physical and to get necessary titers drawn. I've paid online for the background/drug check and need to bring the printed receipt to Jewel on Monday. I've also registered for CPR through Red Cross. I'm so excited, but with all the info we got right away, it's hard not to feel overwhelmed!

I think we Fort Wayne gals should have a little get together too! Like lunch before or after the July orientation. :)

I totally agree about getting together for lunch before or after the orientation. I am totally in. Where are you guys getting the necessary titers and stuff? I had a family doctor when I was a kid that I got childhood immunizations from, but I know I haven't done the hepatitis or TB stuff. The only doctor I go to is my OB (probably because I have had two babies in the last two years lol!) Where do I get the physical and who fills out the healthcare form? I am confused.

I just randomly called a primary care doc off our insurance list and scheduled a new patient appointment. I made sure to tell them I needed the physical form for school filled out and that I would need titers and the Heb B vaccine. The woman said no problem at all. The soonest I could get in for a new pt. was June 18th.

The background/drug check was more expensive than I thought it would be - $118. :(

VictoriaM,

Thanks for the info. That is what I will do. I have been meaning to get a family doctor for a while. I will use this as my opportunity and do exactly what you did. I can't wait to call on Monday. I think it is silly to register people for classes bases on when we get these tasks done. I feel like we are all in a race. Oh well, I guess we don't get to make up the rules. Does your insurance cover the titers and hepatitis vaccine? I am not sure whether mine does or not. I will need to check on that. I can see the expenses adding up. Oh well, like you, I have been preparing financially for this for a while. It is just a little scary and exciting to actually see it all playing out. We will definitely have to plan something for lunch. What time is the orientation? Meeting before would probably be helpful and take the edge off some.

Thank you all so much for all of your thoughts. There is always next semester. God has a plan for everyone and I guess that just wasn't a part of mine yet. Thank you all for being there for me..not to be all mushy..but it is so cool that all of us..mostly complete strangers can come together over something so stressful and form friendships. Thank you all:1luvu:

Davilyn, I'm sorry you didn't get in, that stinks especially since it was due to a scoring issue. Can I ask you, how long did it take for you to get transfer credit applied to your transcript? I had my transcripts sent to Ivy Tech last September and still have not ever gotten credit. It's ridiculous.

It took me an entire semester and I had to throw a fit to get it done with the Dean at Columbus...I am so tired of this junk..I want this so bad though..I can't let it get to me..I AM GOING TO BE AN AWESOME NURSE!

Thanks Lennon for the thought, but I think there are people ahead of me on the alternate list for the ASN program.

Yes Melissa-I was living in Illinois and my 3.83 GPA for all classes was a sure seat there, but we moved here to Indy in Dec08 and everything is different. So with only the 4 classes- ANPII is my only B, it has put me back- I would have started This past Jan 09- hard pill to swallow considering my husband got laid off from that job in April. So here I am! I am not complaining --I believe God sends you on journey's for a reason- I just want to go in a different direction now!!! Yes, I am taking the class over this summer for the Spring 10 and I better make it happen since I am passing my seat in the PN program! (I think?)

You always have such a positive, refreshing way of looking at things. I know good things are coming your way, hold on to that faith! Don't worry, I won't burst out into song (...."Dooooon't stop....beleeeeeivin'....) ;)
