Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

Indy's program is only 4 days a week. Ideally it is Monday or Friday off, but in 2nd semester, sometimes it is a Tuesday off. Just depends on the clinical schedules, but some did have Tuesday off instead of Mon or Fri. Hope the info helps!

Xandersmama and VictoriaM, i think we should definately get together!

I am so stressed about all the things we need to do and i too feel like we are in a race. Luckily for me, my job offers the Hep B vacc for free and i just had my TB chest xray last month. And I am going to call my highschool to see if they have my immunizations. got my fingers crossed on that one. i dont have a family doctor or health insurance but i found a clinic that does free physicals and immunizations through Lutheran hospital. i am going to call them first thing in the morning. That totally sucks that they won't take on-line CPR certs. i am certified but apparently my CPR isn't the one that we need. ugh! anyway, maybe i will go ahead and sign up with the red cross afterall. i already have a pretty tight schedule having 2 babies, work, and 3 classes this summer. but hey, i can do it! just keep swimming, just keep swimming... wow, and the drug screen and background check was more pricey that i thought would it be. this whole thing has been a real ordeal.

i am hoping to keep working when i am in the program because i don't think i can make it without. i have an interview with parkview for a more parttime job. i am hoping that will help a little.

Ahcgirl,

I am interested to know what you found out about the clinic at Lutheran that offers physicals and immunizations for free. Where is it at? Have you found out anything? I was wanting to take care of all of this today and I haven't quite figured it all out yet.

Xandersmama,

the clinic is called Living Luke's Legacy. I think they are only open on saturday mornings though. you know, i am getting immunizations (MMR and DT) through the health department for free. they also do the Hep B for $29. I am pretty sure that they do Mantoux for free too. Fort Wayne also has a TB clinic where you can get that sort of thing. Google the clinics for maps. good luck!

Okay Ft. Wayne people, does it not say in our letter on step #3 to contact your advisor to schedule an appointment for sometime between June 22nd and July 17th? I called today to schedule an appointment and was told I didn't need to because we would be doing that at the meeting on the 9th! Is this what everyone else is hearing? I am very frustrated with this school sometimes! It seems I'm always told one thing and then told to do another or not given ALL the information needed! I hope this isn't any indication of how the next few semesters are going to go!

I emailed my advisor and told her I needed to schedule an apppointment. She emailed me back and told me to call her during office hours to get it scheduled.

I do feel like getting accurate information has been really difficult. I hope it gets easier after orientation.

Just hoping my advisor gave me the right info. today! I've been really overwhelmed with everything and with 2 kids at home I really need to try and get the best schedule for them (and me)! Oh well, at least it gives me a little more time to get everything together!

TK412,

hey, i talked to my advisor and she scheduled an appt for june 18th. geesh. i thought we would have at least til june 22. i am having trouble finding a cpr class that i can fit into my schedule. i have 2 little ones too. what are you planning to do about that???

Well, I wonder why I'm being told one thing and others are scheduling appointments????????? As far as CPR goes, I'm pretty lucky and know people that teach Health Care Provider CPR so they are going to get me into a class that they are teaching.

Fort Wayne folks, just got this email from JD:

Please be working on completing the required paperwork for your health

form information and for CPR in addition to ordering your Background

Check and Drug Screen Test from Certified Background.com by June 15,

2009. Please have your confirmation form from Certified Background with

you at the new student orientation so that we can then give you the form

for the urine drug screen form that you will need to provide to the lab.

The Health Aid program here at Ivy Tech will be offering three CPR

classes in the near future if you need to complete that requirement yet.

The dates are June 16, June 30, and a later one on July 14. You will

need to contact the Health Aid program to sign up for one of these classes if interested. Space is limited and you

must be registered and paid in advance in order to attend the class. Someone at the Health Aid program can give you the specifics if you are interested.

We will be having a Mandatory New Nursing Student Orientation Meeting on

Thursday, July 9, 2009, from 1-3 pm in the Auditorium (Room 1200 on the

Coliseum Campus). Please be sure to attend this mandatory meeting.

There will be no excused absences from this meeting. We have decided

to do mass registration of all accepted students on July 9, so you will

not need to contact your advisor or make another trip to campus.

Advisors will not be registering students before that date for fall

classes.

Thanks for posting that! Now I don't have to worry so much about getting everything done so quickly. I certainly hope that communication gets better!

For the Columbus people, I called today and the lady told me they hope to get out the letters by Wednesday!!!! :angryfire Nothing like waiting to the last minute. I hope they keep that date!
