how much Indiana nurses make

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

hi everyone..

Im planning to get into the nursing world,i just wnna ask how much they make an hour just to give me an idea of the salary.Thank oyu so much.....be right here waiting...

I worked in LTC right out of school in Northern IN and made about 19 plus shift diff. I work in a Dr Office and I took a big pay cut. The funny thing is I assist in surgeries. How is it I actually do more "risky" nursing and I make less? As an LPN I know the experience I am gaining now will look great when I finish RN school.

Specializes in lots of different areas.

Is that you from Lafayette LPN program a few years ago?

I'm an LPN in a central Indiana hospital. I make $15.49 base, 20% shift diff for nights plus an additional 10% more on the weekends. Not to mention I work weekend option which is $7 more on the hour. I work every Thursday, Friday, Saturday. The schedule is good for me, I start the transitional RN program in June. Starting RN's make about $21 plus the same shift diff but RN weekend option is an additional $11 more on the hour. (try to figure out my paycheck every week!! lol) I will say that where I work has excellent bonuses when I pick up extra shifts. We have had such high census, they have been offering $15 more per hr for LPN and $20 more per hour in addition to your regular pay when being called in.

spider11 (i see it's been a while since this post but)...do you mind saying which hospital? maybe in an email, i dont know how that stuff works on here. I am in indy, and was curious. gotta love that overtime!!!! :)

I'd be interested in knowing which hospital also. I'm leaning towards St. Francis south after I graduate....I know they pay really well.

I am a new grad and recently got hired on with Clarian in Indianapolis; I also have a few friends who have been hired on at different Clarian hospitals. I know the core 3 are offering $21.75 for the grad nurse positions, with $3.60 more from 7p-11p, $4 more from 11p-7a and $5.50 more on weekends. They pay for a Kaplan review course and for you to attend. One of my friends who got hired at St. Vincent does not get paid nurse's pay until either after she passes the boards or after she is done with orientation and all that. Then another one of my friends got hired on at Clarian north and is starting out getting paid as much as we would--I would be trying to negotiate this, I am not sure if she is or not. If you are looking I know they have a great OR rotation, and they are all great teaching hospitals if you are a new grad! Good luck to all!

Ladytiger44...

When you say "grad nurse positions," are you talking about nurses that have their RN?

Grad nurse.....I always thought it was someone that had graduated a program but not taken the N-Clex yet. Is this correct?

If this is correct, how much more do you typically get in the Indy area once you pass the N-clex?

Also, any ideas on how much NP's make in central indy?

How about the Lafayette area for grad ASN's?

thanks, jenny

A grad nurse is someone who has graduated but not taken the Nclex yet, so this is correct. At Clarian you get hired on getting paid RN pay; then if after you have taken the Nclex and you don't pass you have to become like a cna and your pay decreases, you also have to meet with your manager, clinical coordinator and the nurse educator to discuss maybe what went wrong, what they can do to help, etc. Also at this time as I understand it you are not in orientation anymore until you have passed and then you would pick back up where you left off. If you would happen to take it a second time and did not pass then you would be terminated. That is why Kaplan is included in the orientation, so everyone has the best chance of passing on the first time. One of my friends who got hired on at a different hospital in Indy got hired on as a grad nurse and is not getting started out at RN pay, and I think hers will increase when she passes the Nclex. Hope this helps! :D

I know this thread is kind of old, but I was looking to see how much Indiana LPNs make. I work at a larger hospital in Indiana (although not in the Indy area). I am almost positive we are no longer hiring LPNs, unfortunately. RNs start at $21.79. If you work 3 consecutive hours after 3pm, you get a 10% differential during the week, and a 10% differential for any hours worked on the weekend (this is for every position.. not just nurses). Between the hours of 11p and 7a, you make $4 more an hour (for nursing). So if you are a night shift weekend nurse, you could be making about $26+ an hour.

I worked at a home health agency as an aide then as a nurse fresh out of school making $15.00/hr no benefits. I then went to work for a LTC facility with one month experience making $18.75 hr as an LPN, evening shift. RN's at my facility make $20-$23/hr depending on experience and shift differential. I have a friend that works for a hospital making $25/hr....she has her RN,BSN and 5+ years experience, and another friend who is an LPN in a primary care physicians office making $14.00/hr
