I could not find a hospital job right out of school so I took a position in a LTC facility. I got 9 months experience then applied at 2 different hospitals and got offered a job at both. I took the job that had better benefits. The pay was only $1 difference. The LTC facility offered more because they were so short staffed they didn't want to lose people. I would take the job at the LTC facility if you can't find a hospital that is hiring. Remember, it's not permanent!

I graduated from Medtech's LPN program last April. Even though there were a few bumps in the road, I really liked it. I needed a short program with no waiting list so I chose Medtech. My classes started out 3 days a week then progressed to 5 days a week towards our last quarter. I am planning on going back to Medtech next year to get my RN. Most of my graduating class work in LTC facilities, myself and a few others work for various hospitals. There were some things I didn't like about Medtech....some of the clinical sites, one of my intructors, etc. The same things that most people experience at any school. I feel like I was well prepared to pass NCLEX and go out into the field. Good luck!

I worked at a home health agency as an aide then as a nurse fresh out of school making $15.00/hr no benefits. I then went to work for a LTC facility with one month experience making $18.75 hr as an LPN, evening shift. RN's at my facility make $20-$23/hr depending on experience and shift differential. I have a friend that works for a hospital making $25/hr....she has her RN,BSN and 5+ years experience, and another friend who is an LPN in a primary care physicians office making $14.00/hr

@JeoSmith619 You pick day or evening classes (some campuses only have one option others have both) and then they give you your schedule. You do not get to pick the days or times. I went 5 days a week almost 8 hrs a day and clinicals were 12 hr days...even some weekends. MedTech's programs are accelerated to you learn 2 years worth in 15 months for LPN's and 18 months for RN's. My class learned 3-4 chapters a week per class....about 12 chapters worth in a week. It was hard but sooooo worth it. I was able to work part-time. Most of my classmates were single moms that worked too and they did it!

I graduated from MedTech's Greenwood campus 6 months ago. MedTech's 75th St campus is NLN accredited for their PN program, their RN program is in candidacy status. Both programs at the Greenwood campus are in candidacy status. Their programs are $25,000+ I have an interview with IU Health (formerly Clarian) on Tuesday. One of my former classmates works for St. Francis and another for Wishard. Most of my classmates went into LTC....most LPN's do, it's where the jobs are for LPN's. My class had a 100% pass rate first try on the NCLEX. MedTech has it's ups and down like any other place but the price isn't much cheaper than U of I. If you want to work at a hospital, going to a school with a better reputation will help you in your job search.
