Half the battle is just not having it in the house. The other half is not to turn right or left after getting out of work, lol... ;)

well, you see, that was my logic:

that the frosting had been in my fridge for a week, and i had to get rid of it.

now it's gone.

it was really good.

:rotfl:

Maybe you can replace it with some of that fat free hot fudge sauce?

i made myself a ny's resolution, to eat nothing but healthy.

these past few days, i've been living on flavored waters and clementine oranges.

when i got home from work this a.m., i ate half a can of choc frosting that was in my fridge.

it's too easy, to say "to heck with it" and stuff your face the rest of the day.

but i didn't.

i'm bringing strawberries to work tonight.

I have a friend that only eats food that has seeds in it. That's his only dietary rule, and he does yoga every morning for exercise. He's really fit & trim. I think he's on to something there!

i probably have horrific eating habits.

i just don't know where to start, or how to begin eating "healthy".

i have never eaten meals.

never.

i eat tons of fruit, and drink loads of water.

don't like veggies, except salads.

i'm not overweight.

i do work out (lift weights) but i'm a heavy smoker and i have too many processed foods.

my body is feeling sluggish and unmotivated.

plus, it's 49.

i don't know if it's my mind or body, but i'm craving 'health'.

the book tweety mentioned, "the spectrum" sounds intriguing.

i read the synopsis on amazon.

so, i lurk in this forum daily, not knowing what to say or where to begin.

all i know, is i am sick to death of processed, salty, fatty, sugary, hi-cal, empty nutrient foods that deplete the life out of you.

should i eat an american diet?

i don't think so, acknowledging what america looks like.

anyone, please.

i want to incorporate a lifestyle.

this is not about diet, but a way of living.

maybe i'll just continue to read this forum, until i have something more concrete to contribute.

thanks for listening.

HA HA HA! that is too cute!

Hmm...

Are nuts seeds?

DEFINITELY not an "American" diet.

It's funny, since I have been eating sweets and flour again these past two weeks, how much my body hurts again - getting out of bed walking around, etc... the body knows (said w/ eyebrows wiggling). I feel all bloated too - I'm sure I have regained some lb.

Zoe,

Oh my goodness, I loved your slogan about the optimist and the pessimist. :roll

Earl,

Yeah, I hear ya. Can't waste that perfectly good chocolate icing. Gotta get rid of it. :idea:Hey, I've got the perfect place.

{Belch} Ummm, ummm Good. Welcome, to the group.;)

Hi BaptizedbyFire and everyone else.

Here's my update. Not eating as well as I would like as of late. I think it is because, I want to be paid for all the work I've been doing around the house. Unfortunately, I pay myself with food. I like our website because it lets me think about why I have certain habits. I do consider this good news, to understand the whys. Maybe I can come up with a solution.

Despite all the above, no weight gained. Definitely, a time where no news is still good news.

I've been busy lately. The indoor garden is continuing to grow; but, I don't know if these plants are going to produce peas or not. I sure hope so. Last night, I also planted beets and spinach seeds in indoor pots.

Will probably get the kids to to outside and pick some oranges for me today. The lemons are good in my southern tea; however, I don't have too many so far.

Today is ironing and organizing the office to prepare for homeschool second semester.

What I really want to do is go outside and start working with the soil around the bushes on the east side of our house. Maybe later . . . So many desires sooo little time and energy. The time, I can't correct; but, the energy is improving with a little the help from 3 cups of coffee. ;)

Keep up the good work everybody....I've been sticking to the weight watchers plan, exercising daily, have only lost 3 lbs. This is going to be a slow process....

Are nuts seeds?

I think so- he eats a lot of those, too.

Sounds like everyone's doing well. I went to yoga this AM and am feeling good. But ready for a nap.....

Leslie, your body is trying to tell you something. I would just take baby steps. A good rule of thumb I use in my eating habits is "variety, variety, variety.......". I don't restrict carbs, fat or protein, but just eat a combination of foods throughout the day, making sure I get many servings of fruits and vegetables. If you don't like vegetables, start with a dark green leafy salad and add salad stuff you like, maybe an avacodo.

Here's a simple idea of what a healthy diet looks like, (for people like us that are basically healthy without issues like diabeties, heart problems, etc.) from my experience of reading on this subject (mind you I'm jaded towards a more vegetarian way and am anti-low carb): a wide variety of fruits (include berries like blueberries and raspberries for the antioxidants, and drink pomegranite juice occasioanlly watered down) and vegetables (again variety by color yellows, greens, reds, etc.) , a wide variety of whole grains, including brown rice, whole grain bread, (I'm fond of the sprouted whole grain breads) whole grain cereals, whole grain pasta, slow cooked oatmeal and other grains like quinoa, Kashi etc, nuts and seeds (they may be fatty but in moderation are great for the heart, walnuts have omega three fatty acids), legumes (good for the heart, so eat often), soy products and lean meat like white turkey, fats to include monosaturated fats like found in olive oil and nuts and omega 3 fatty acids found in salmon and other fish, but also found in flax oil/seeds (I add a scoop of crushed flax seeds to my cereal a few times a week).

Dring green, white and black tea. Coffee is my weakness.

Eat very dark chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa (I like a brand that's 85% but at least above 60) a couple of times a week in small amounts.

A calcium source that includes vitamin d is important. What they've found is the top dairy eating countries also have the top rates of osteoporosis and they are thinking the key is vitamin d. African women who spend a lot of time outside but don't eat dairy and get a whole lot less calcium than we do have no osteporis because being in the sun allows their body to make vit. d which helps us to utilize calcium.

The latest craze is "intestinal health" through probiodics. I like Silk's Live smoothies and Stoneyfield Farms organic yogurt smoothies because they have several strains of healthy intestinal bacteria.

That's a lot to think about, but one doesn't have to eat it all in a day, just variety throughout the week.

That's my plan. Now sticking to it is not what I'm good at on a long term basis.

That's it in a nutshell. Taking baby steps, and allowing treats is important for me. I went out last night and had a noodle dish at the Thai place, but back on track today. I'm famous for self-sabatoge, so I'm no guru, and I'm human like the rest of us.

I'm doing good so far. Since I'm on vacation, I'm not around the fast food places that surround my school (McDonald's, Burger King, Junior's Cheese Cake, KFC, etc) so I haven't had any fast food. I ate a low fat subway sandwich yesterday and got sick. Hmmm. I lost 12lbs, but then gained 1 lb back, so that's not bad. I'm 19 lbs closer to my mini goal.

I am really craving a large piece of lasagna, a side dish of spaghetti right now.

I'll be honest, I'm only reason I'm behaving right now is because I want to save my cheat day for when the IHOP opens up near my school. I have never had it and want to try it once.

tweety- thank you for your post/input.

i've copied it for a frame of reference.

unfortunately, hubby is strictly meat/potatoes guy and getting the family to change their eating habits, will be probably next to impossible.

thankfully, my dtr is very interested in eating only healthy foods.

so she and i will do it together.

tonight for supper i made scallops sauteed in a tad of olive oil, garlic, onions and even a few red (hot) peppers.

put it on a sm bed of wild rice.

also, a fresh salad with romaine lettuce.

i've gotten rid of all white bread in my house, and replaced it with 12 grain.

same for flour-only whole wheat.

when i did food shopping today, it's the first time i didn't get any junk for the kids.

no cookies, ice cream, soda or other 'snacks'.

stocked up on a zillion fruits, yogurts, and a few boxes of italian ice.

this will have to be a rather slow conversion.

seeing what i brought home, hubby went out and got ea of the boys, a twix bar.:grn:

tonight, i'm making homemade sauce....all fresh tomatoes, and am adding mushrooms, garlic, onions, fresh herbs, zucchini and will be using a sweet potato, to cut the acid.

i am so new at this.

but i'm determined.

someday tweety, i'll be as sophisticated as you. :specs:

Thanks Leslie, I appreciate the compliment and the support because I need it too. Sounds like you're off to a great start. Baby steps, making simple changes one at a time, such as switching to whole grain bread and pasta can make a huge difference. When my sister lived with me those couple of months she picked up a couple of my habits such as having a healthy salad with lots of stuff in it rather than just iceberge lettuce, and having berries or other fruit in the evening. She said just even doing that made her feel better, and she is not the picture of health.

I hope you continue to share your journey with us. Getting family buy in is going to be tough, but having your daughter to do it with will be good.

Talking about it helps to keep me focused as well. I'm having papaya and Quaker Oats whole grains for breakfast (sprinkled wtih cinnamin).

Yesterday I went to yoga class. I was thinking that I really can't afford the cost, but I really need the instructor and the class to force me to do it, because I don't have the discipline to do it at home. I'm going to the gym today after work. Now if I could only get the dogs to let me sleep through the night, I'll feel real good. :)
