VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

This is from my letter:

"An additional component of the credentialing process is a personal reference check. You will be asked to provide three personal references and they will be sent a request letter via mail. It is recommended that you contact your references to request their cooperation in returning the letter in a timely manner, as this will impact your date of employment." This is in my paragraph that explains VETpro.

After this it explains Eqip as a totally separate background check.... And that its basically another questionnaire I have to do.

What do you think?

I was hired as a new grad as well. My references I used were my clinical instructors and they sent forms to fill out.

The other personal reference I used my work study boss n another person i knew. However to my knowledge only my clinical instructors received forms to fill out

Do anyone know how long it takes for HR to call with a start date after the package has met the board?

You and me both are ready for that call. The director had signed mine!

Do anyone know how long it takes for HR to call with a start date after the package has met the board?

Once the Standards Board has met and determined your Level and Step, HR will call you very soon after. That day, the next, something like that. They have incentive to get you on sooner rather than later, so it's not a big delay at all.

So I approached my floor manager today about using her as a reference and she agreed. I'm also going to use my clinical nursing instructor from senior year as my second reference but I'm struggling with coming up with a 3rd. Would a CNA that I work closely with be okay to put as my 3rd reference who is "familiar with my clinical abilities"?

I passed the interview at the VA. My file went to the board and my pay will be cut $5.00 basically $900.00 dollars a month less. I'm now finishing up vetpro. I brought two recommendation letters from my DA at the facility I work at and also a recommendation letter from a doctor who works at the clinic that I work at now. The recruiter said they could not use the recommendations. Now I find out they are going to send letters to every job that I have had since receiving my nursing license.. this seems way way too much!!!!!!

thank you! Hopefully it will be soon!

I am also waiting for a starting date for more than a month now. Who decides the starting date? the board or HR.

HR is suppose to call and offer a start date. I was told by the nurse recruiter that the start dates occur every two weeks. I have been waiting two weeks for a start date. So hopefully we hear something soon! You can call to see if your package has been sign by the DON. This is the step after the package meets the board and from the DON it goes to HR.

The HR told me that I got the job already and should give them time. I called the recruiter about 3wks ago and she asked me to give her a couple of days to get back with a starting date. There has been no response to all my emails/phone calls after. Maybe my package has not been signed but the more I wait, the more nervous I get about not knowing the outcome of all the waiting. I hope we get the good news soon!!

Standards Board has nothing to do with start dates, anything like that. HR sets up NEOs (New Employee Orientations) and it's typically every two weeks. If there is an unusually large group already scheduled, you might get bumped to the next group. Same as if it's an impractically small group; you might get bumped to another NEO date.

Nursing Orientation is separate from (but can run concurrent with) HR orientations. Depending on the facility, Nursing-specific orientations might be every two weeks, or only once per month. Not really a problem, as HR and Ed are pretty good at coordination :)

Has anyone recently been hired on at the VA in Phoenix? I'm wondering how long it takes to hear back from HR after an interview.
