I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Yes, it will likely delay your orders. When I was commissioning in early 2011, there were funding issues that delayed my orders being cut. I did get to at least KNOW what my first duty station was, but the process of getting orders took until March, and I was selected for commission in a November board. Your selection/commission has to be approved by Congress, and everything else comes after that.

So the news finally came. I was NOT selected. I am an alternate but do not know what number yet! I know God is preparing my road and will allow this for me at the right time. Congrats to all others, I will keep trying!

Sorry for not being selected this time round. I am sure ur time will come. Stay strong. I will know my fate tomorrow :)

Don't worry...your time is coming! I was an alternate waiting from the July board.

I am curious. Is this the first time you got put on the alternate list? I was also once an alternate.

Yes this is the first time I am an alternate. After reading this discussion board and how hard it has been for everyone I was not surprised one bit...now just gotta have a lot more patience and ride this roller coaster again next year lol!! (I hate roller coasters!!)

Just wanted to cue selects into a new thread titled "Air Force Jan 2014 COT" here on all nurses so that those of us going to COT in January can all prepare!

I found out yesterday from the recruiter I was selected. Thankfully he checks his messages in the weekend. I almost do not believe it I want to see it on paper. I have been working as a contract nurse for the Air Force for almost 2 years and so excited to come in active duty. I do not have a COT date or details from my recruiter yet but hopefully tomorrow when the holiday is over.

I'm in too! I'm not yet sure when or where either.

I just found out my recruiter is out of town until next week. I wish there was another way to find out!!!

There certainly is a way to find out. Call the office in your geographical location and ask to speak to another healthcare recruiter. There is also a Master Sergeant supervising the flight who can probably help you too.

My recruiter is the Master Sergent....no call yet. I think he is super busy...he is always good with communication. I worked last night but I cannot sleep for a second!
