I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Congrats to all the new selects!!! :) Welcome to the military. It might be a wee bit of a wait for Congress to get through the scrolling process, they're kinda tied up with other matters ... but be patient! You've waited this long, and it'll happen. It's that good ol' hurry up and wait. We have that in the Army, too. :D

Bayern, pretty sure that's for regular line officers, not nursing. I don't know what it's called in the Air Force exactly, but in the Army those folks would be going to Officer Candidate School (OCS), not the medical officer basic. Don't panic, I don't think that's it!

I questioned the list based on the date of the release but from your reply I think it is called the same thing in Af as it is called in the Army.

OTS is Officer Training School, line officers go to OTS. Nurses go to COT. So, that is definitely not the list :)

I have yet to hear from my recruiter....this waiting is terrible! Tuesday can not come soon enough!

I cannot believe how slow time goes. I am glad I am scheduled to work through Wed. And last night I had this critical patient that took almost all my night working hrs, so I did not have time to over-think stuff. I am glad that is not the list.

Ok that is def not the list thank God!!! Looking through my records when recruiter e mailed me the list of how many positions were available and it said that the name for this board is 14NCO1.

I am so impatient to find out too :(...hang in there everyone. I will be praying for all of us!

Yes that is not the list for this board. Last board some people didn't hear the same time as others. I don't know if it is necessarily based on select or non-select status. Remember that it was Friday afternoon when people started getting the calls. I got my call after 5pm. If your recruiter wasn't in the office, he may not know yet what your status is. Keep up your spirits. I know the wait is difficult. I was an alternate last board. When I first started this process over 14 months ago, I was told that it can take over a year to get in. The wait has been worth realizing my dream. Hoping you guys get good news.

Sorry BayerRN, for not replying so quickly...was not on yesterday. I am going in as clinical

Recruiter finally texted me back says he's been out sick for a few days. Only thing he told me is that the "official" results will be out tomorrow!!!!! Pray pray pray for good news tomorrow!!:nailbiting:

It is okay. my wife keeps reminding me that recruiters and everyone on this site got lives to live too and not just log on allnurses all day and google 2014 AF nurse selection board every time they get to their laptops and turn on their phones (at this point she adds...thank God you do not own an ipad)...hahahaha she just does not get it! :)

At least your recruiter told you tomorrow...mine told me tuesday! he is probably out on holiday on account of christopher columbus. I can wait for one extra day :)

Hello everyone.....I also applied on this board and have been following all your posts. I have not heard the results yet.....through others experience do the ones that got selected find out before the ones that did not? So is this no news mean bad news?

So, does anyone know for sure if the Shutdown will hinder our assignments? My husband is also in the Air Force and based at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. I'm praying that they'll assign me here as well for joint-spouse, because if not, I'll have to turn it down. This whole waiting game is nerve wracking!
