I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Thank you again for your advice jfratian! You are correct regarding the "good years" which I have at least 8 good guard years. And that is exactly the rumor I have heard, I may get and have seen nurses with similar background before me come in at: O2E with one year for promotion to O3E. Not too shabby, good start. They did inform me that for the officer's pension I need to stay in for minimum 10 years. Now to pass the MEPS physical at 44 years old :/ Then swear in!!!! Pixie.RN, documenting your ED hours I would assume, was because you were coming into a specialty. I am filling a clinical nurse spot in the Air National Guard, despite my critical care background. It hurts a little that I am penalized for part time, as the nature of my specialty is intense and frankly very advanced.

I never remember being asked if I was full time or not. At one point I worked registry and in house pool, but did enough hours to be full time. I wasn't asked about that period at all.

I think it completely depends on how careful your recruiter is. I have friends who got inaccurate or no credit at all.

Exactly, that is why I am trying to be proactive!

To get the E pay you need to have the equivalent of 4 years AD as an enlisted member which is 1440 points.

All points count towards your E pay. With your 4 years of AD along with your ANG time you should have no issues getting E pay. It does make a nice difference in pay. Your years of pay will be the same as what it is in the ANG now. This knowledge is from personal experience.
