Why do most of the SNF/ LTC facilities not put their classified Ads on the internet?

It looks like there are many SNFs in my neighborhood and I want to work at one of them. But…Most of the major job search sites on the internet such as CareerBuilder, Indeed, or Craigslist put classified Ads from places such as home health agencies, clinics, and hospices, but I really don’t see much from SNFs. I want to apply for SNFs but if they don’t put their Ads, how can I tell if they are hiring or not. I once visited one of the SNFs in my area to ask if I could fill out a job application, but the receptionist gave me a cold reception and said they didn’t have one, so from then on I have never gone to any SNFs to ask them to just fill out an application without any appointment. But, do you still just take a chance and go to SNFs to ask them if you can fill out an application? Or is there any special job search sites for SNFs?

Have you tried dropping off a resume at the facilities you are interested in? It will give you an excuse to go in and you will not have to ask for an application. I know a few people who had on the spot interviews while just dropping off a resume so dress well!

Good luck!!

In my rural area, some don't even have a website, although that is changing. Go to the facilities--many are always hiring or will call you back when they get an opening. If you don't feel like going in person try this: I put out 11 resumes by just mailing them to all of the LTC's in my area (called first and got the DON's name for the cover letter) and got two interviews. I've also uploaded my entire resume and had a website freeze up on me because "there's too much information" and the website couldn't handle it all!! Depends on the capacity of the website, and if the business is up on the latest IT stuff--IMHO LTC is the last place you will get lots of technology/IT. No money in the budget for a dedicated IT person.

My thought on this is that many of the mgr's in LTC's are 'old school.' They don't know that you can place ads for free on indeed.com, ect. They don't know these sites exist. At least that is the case in my locale. However, a couple weeks ago i googled some long term care job sites - i cant remember the names.

I suppose it depends on where you live, I am in Fl and some of them do advertise on Craig's list. The best approach is to follow up in person, or just apply in person. I have seen resumes stuck in a drawer, and vacant positions. Face to face contact can never be replaced. Good luck!

That is exactly what I did on Wednesday and had a walk-through/interview on the spot. Now I have a job that is ideal for me :) I can't stand the online application process. In a people-oriented profession, it is far too impersonal.

In my area there are about 3 large LTC/SNF parent compaines that own the facilites and you have to apply on their website and wait for your app to be forewarded on to the DNS.

The way I got my current job after looking for months and applying online, was I mapped out all the SNF/LTC in my acceptable commute range, took a day dressed in a suit had a bunch of copies of my resume and drove to everyone and applied or dropped off a resume. 2 weeks later I got a call back from one of them

Wow...we're not all old school. My facility advertises on: craigslist, Monster, Career Builder, and our own web site.

We get 10-15 walk ins a week. Honestly, I don't have time to stop what I'm doing and interview everyone so....dress for success, treat the receptionist with respect since she is the one who will page me (or not) to the lobby and please, make sure your resume' is neatly typed without spelling mistakes. I had one man come in, dressed in a suit with a nice resume. I stopped what I was doing, interviewed him and hired him on the spot. So it can happen.

you could call and ask if they are hiring, or like others have said stop by and fill out an application. good luck

Where I have lived, not necessary. Word of mouth between employees already working there got most positions filled, or the occasional walk in. All they ever had to do was to put out the info, and somebody had a buddy who needed a second job or more hours or their first job for that matter.

Many ltcs place ads in the local paper which are then published online thru the paper's website ... have you checked whether your local paper has a website?

If the ltc is part of a chain, find out the name of the corporation that owns it and check their website.
