We had a resident today ask the CNA to shave his pubic hair. When she declined he complained to the social worker. Really? We don't have enough to do?!? I suggested to the social worker she speak to him and tell him to ask his wife to do it. Yikes!

I had a redneck who was about 90 years old and head of the local branch of the KKK threaten to have his brother meet me in the parking lot some morning after work if I didn't go to the liquor store and bring him back a pint and let him smoke in his room (in with an MI, no dementia, just a mean redneck). I really think he thought that would work. I also think he didn't have a lot of experience with a woman telling him "no" about anything.

When I went to give him a bath, he wanted a "cute sweet thang" to give him his bath. So I sent in our 20 year old male CNA. You could hear him cussing from one end of the hall to the other.

And then there was the patient was wanted to use a vibrator, but couldn't hold it herself. She demanded one of the staff hold it for her. Um, no.

Wow.......just wow....!

Wouldn't the vibrations interfere with her EKG monitor leads???

As a student nurse, an elderly male patient asked me to put some lotion on him 'down there'. I refused, but when I told my instructor, she just laughed. But that was 40 years ago!!

my favorite is my friend who was asked by her several day old cabg post op patient to scratch his testicles (he used the other word.) when she refused he complained to administration. administration actually requested that she write him a letter of apology (she didn't).

Your friend should have told her admin, "You're right. I think this is a really important issue and nursing education in our country is failing to address this. I'll agree to write the apology letter if you agree to write to the state board and the NCSBN suggesting that testicle-scratching be included in the NCLEX-RN and that there be discussion at the state board to encourage nursing schools to include this issue as an important patient right in nursing curricula." I'd love to see the admin's reaction to this proposal! She should request a copy of the letter so it could be published in the local paper to increase awareness of patient rights and healthcare "customer service." I mean, it would be excellent PR for the hospital as it would demonstrate their superior commitment to customer service over their competitors. :lol2:

She should have requested an inservice with a demonstration.

Another chapter for the book I'm writing entitled "You Can't Make This Stuff Up!"

I must have his sister on my floor! She is forever pestering the CNA's to trim and/or shave "the magic garden" and when they refuse, she high tails it to the DON and administrator office ASAP!

This is LTC and she's alert A&Ox4 and a very, very obese 80 some odd year old who refuses personal care for days at a time sometimes and has a certain odor to her that makes you gag on her 'ripe' days (before everyone jumps on us for 'neglect', she has already contacted the State and it has been told to us that she has the right to refuse that care)! How many gardeners does she think the magic garden is going to have?!

"The magic garden" BWAW -HAHAHA!!!! I actually did PMP!!!!

Alert, oriented elderly lady in LTC, puts light on, go in to find out what she needs, now mind you she has full use of all of her limbs... she says "please fix my necklace.... I wanted to ask are your arms broke! geeze.

Ah, that's almost what happened to me the other week! I'm a nursing student, in my first semester, and my first patient assignment was an 87 year-old man who had been prescribed an ointment be applied to his testicles. I had to do it for him, and he told me I had to apply it to "the tip" as well because he felt like it was getting a bit red! haha That part was not in the TAR at all.
