What's YOUR Dream Job?

Nursing Students General Students

I just heard a nurse ask another nurse "What kind of nurse would you be if you could be any nurse?"

So I am wondering...all you nursing students (don't even be realistic!!), if you could have any job, what would it be?? What is your dream??

For me, mine is to be a surgical ICU nurse, specialing in brain injuries. I also someday would love to do hospice (NOT peds, though!) or O.R. trauma. But that's just a little dream :headphone:

Specializes in Ortho/Spine, Telemetry, SNF/Rehab.

First choice Labor and Delivery, then NICU, then peds!

Specializes in ED.

Working for an insurance company. More pay for less responsibility, yes please!

I currently work in oncology as a tech and I float all over the place when I can. I absolutely love oncology!! Every unit I work on makes me love oncology more. Next summer after level two Im applying to MD Anderson in Houston for a 6 week internship. They do cancer research ect. I would love to be a research nurse or work in infusion and see the positive side of cancer treatment. I also love hospice but as the death toll rises on my unit it can be overwhelming some days. So not sure about the long term hospice nursing job, but its something I would love to try for a while.

Psychiatric NP or CRNA....won't know if I like psych or the ICU better until I get to experience them though :)

I used to be SURE I wanted to be a CRNA. Then I spent some time in the OR. While what they do is definitely important, it looked so boring. I think I would love learning it, but applying it, not so much. Starting epidurals would get old for me too.

Specializes in Forensic Psych.

I've never seen the appeal or understood why 90% of students on here want to be CRNAs. It looks so boring, I think I'd be miserable.

i like cardiac or endocrine or ER.

Midwife! But I'm not feeling up to more school since I still have a long way to go before I'm an RN, so my other dream job would be a labor nurse in a midwife-run freestanding birth center.[/quote']

This is my dream, as well! I have just always been so interested in womens health, have been present at the births of all four nieces/nephews, and I just find it all so fascinating!

Specializes in L&D.

My dream job: antenatal, L&D, postpartum, high risk OB. You get the idea. ;) I also love the idea of becoming a nursing instructor someday, or maybe a childbirth educator. You can see where my heart is.

I would be happy with wherever I end up, though!

Same here! Maybe because it's the highest paying nursing job, though. Still. Looks so boring.

Hoping to make it onto a helicopter after a stint in an ED - just not sure if I want to be at a 'normal' hospital or a pediatric only. But if another rotation in school gives me 'that feeling' I'll follow my gut.

ER definitely. I can't see myself doing anything else. Obviously I'll take whatever I can get to start out, but I love ER. I've been a CNA for 2 years at my hospital and I start as an ER tech next week and I'm so excited!

Down the road I'd love to work for a large trauma center or be a flight RN for flight for life...I also plan on getting my paramedic license as well and doing on call as a paramedic once or twice a week.

I am in critical care this semester, and this has been so awesome! I love the ICU, but I know my heart lies in OB.
