Textbook Access codes: What a rip off!

I am so against access codes with text books right now. I would understand if the access codes I was forced to purchase would lead me down a golden path of gummy bears and Hawaiian punch, yet all it keeps doing is sending me down the path of anger and frustration.

I would understand it even more if professors didn't use these damn things as a crutch to lean on. They don't write the test, but throw you in a lab room with questions that came right from the publisher. Why did I buy these access codes again? So they didn't have to write a quiz question? Please tell me there is some grand scale to why I'm throwing away $80.00 to a 5 block 5 letter phrase that looks like I could take an old key generator from a video game and crack this code?

my med-surg book: $130.00

access code: $89.95

used book: 10$ (previous edition which has all the same information, minus a picture)

access code: free......

makes you wonder which way a student would go for given the chance.:D

I agree they're a rip-off!

Complete rip off.

Its a ploy by the publishers to not allow people to sell the books back.

I know the access codes that I have had to use for two of my classes so far expire two years after they are activated, so they won't do anyone much good after that. So the publisher will make another $89.95 off of someone every two years even if the textbook was passed around for free.

Textbook publishers are evil.

Does anyone else have to buy the evolve case studies complete Rn?

Anyone know where I can buy them (sigh) outside of a campus bookstore?

And to think one of my texts from my previous life cost $9. But of course, back then there was no access code to worry about.

Prices for access codes are ridiculous. The only time those damn things ever helped me was for my accounting classes I took. Other than that WASTE of money! Im tired of textbook companies ripping us off.

i gave up on buying the books all together. I spend about two days scanning the books in at the library. That way I never have to lug 7 books around and they are all on .PDF

Honestly what has changed so much from before the computer age that requires me to have an access code? Have we forgotten what paper is? I have to buy the book still.

I know it's horrible! I don't mind buying the nursing ones because they're a big help but I just finished math and the access code was $60 while my math book was $35!! :(

Do your teachers actually make use of the online content? I've never paid for an access code, ever. I prefer studying from my book and notes. I don't even have time to do the silly quiz games that online access codes give.
