teacher answers cell phone

I have a speech teacher who feels that it's ok to answer a cell phone (and have it ring at full volume) while in the middle of a students speech. She feels that we all have to get use to them and they are a part of life.....fine, yes they are but.....isn't a school enviornment suppose to be a safe place to LEARN. Free from cell phones and other annoyances?

So, I have a speech to give next week and was wondering if anyone thought this would be a bad idea. Seeing as she has answered her cell in the middle of lecture and in the middle of a students speech, would it be rude if I polietly asked everyone to turn their cell phones off while I give my speech? If you ask me, that's real world, I can't count the number of times I've been in a meeting and that's been asked of everyone.

What do you think?

Thats rediculous

And this is why i hate cell phone. Some people act like they need a surgical procedure to remove themselves from the grasp.

Have somebody find her number and when class starts call her repeatedly so that she has to turn the damn thing off. Disruptive? Yes. Makes a point? Maybe. Fun? Absolutely!

That's so rude!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe a Speech Teacher, most of all, would answer a cell phone in the middle of a student's presentation.

I take it they allow all of the student's to leave their cell phones on during class/lecture and don't mind if they go off?

I have only had one instructor that kept his cell phone on during class and that was my A&P teacher and he was a PA at a 24-hr. Methadone clinic so, it was for emergency purposes and it only ever rang once during class in a whole semester.

My clinical instructor once set her cell phone to vibrate during lecture because she was concerned about some patients she had and wanted to be reachable "just in case", but for a speech teacher to allow their cell phone to go off "just because" is rediculous. There's a reason they come with on/off buttons.

How insane. I'd complain to the department head. Most of our classrooms have signs that say to turn off pagers and cellphones. I think that should be common sense.

:roll :rotfl: :lol2:

OMGosh, that's the best advice I've seen so far. You should do it!

I think that's a great idea too. Sounds like she needs a wake up call on her cell phone! That really is inconsiderate and disruptive to the class. I would say something to a higher-up. Her job is to teach while she is at school and to leave her personal communications and messages at home.

Unbelievable. I wonder how well she would teach if that cell phone of hers was up her....well, you know!
