Student Uniform - My Gosh!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

The good news – I was accepted into my nursing BSN program for next semester!

The bad news – we have a required white dress which is as thin as cheap drape, and the hem hits 2 inches above my knee when standing. When sitting or bending, it rides up even higher.

The dress code calls for white hosiery – pantyhose or knee-highs. Knee-highs? !!! If this didn’t come from the manufacturer, I would think it could be something for Halloween! Eek!

Absolutely impractical!

For those who think the post may have been a joke, here's an item from a nursing catalog:

eeek!

It could still be a joke, but there's at least one example out there that is an equally horrible uniform....

If I were forced to wear this. I would have to wear this underneath:

But if I were in your shoes, I would make it a goal throughout nursing school to have their uniform policy rewritten...

disgusting, and where would you work in that get up?...and where were the editors to let it go without the white hose?

Specializes in med/surg.

Lord have mercy!! Yeah, I seriously doubt this is the ONLY option, they HAVE to have a pants option! For whoever said "no one wears white anymore"... our uniforms are white w/ our school patch (green) on the shoulder. White SUCKS! Especially when you forget that you have to go straight to clinicals after work and wore pretty striped/polka dot panties under your other clothes and didn't realize it until you change into your THIN WHITE PANTS! :banghead:

Specializes in ICU, ED, PACU.
All my boyfriend had to say was "Hot". *rolls eyes*

He was right! :p

Seriously though, I would have a talk with your administration about how that uniform is far from practical.

Wow, I thought my white scrub top and pants were bad! A scrub dress is in no way practical in clinical.

That certainly puts my uniform into perspective.

*comfort*

How awful! I couldn't function in that! If this for real, you most definately have my sympathies. We have a navy blue scrub top (w/school patch) w/white pants.

Yeesh, do they even make that in my size? I'm a dude with a size 34 waist and 6 feet tall, 200lbs :) I didn't think any place in the country still did skirts. I'm so very sorry they are doing this to you. And I thought the white scrubs we have to wear were bad...

They would probably make you wear a white kilt!

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

I seriously don't see how that is at all Hot or Sexy, these http://www.3wishes.com/nurse.asp

Well some of them I can totally see as hot or sexy, but not the one posted. LOL

Impractical for sure though.

If this is for real I feel very bad for any of the students that are "bigger". I also wonder how many buttons un-snap or pop off.

Specializes in Operating Room, Long Term Care.

I feel for you. Don't they believe in good old fashion scrubs. We have to wear white, but a white dress is crazy. They're trying to bring back the 70's.
