I am having the toughest time finding maternity scrubs that I can wear to work! I need solid royal blue. The only Royal blue tops I can find have a black panel on the side and these don't meet our dress code standards. Help!! Any suggestions?

Great! Good luck on your last semester. First day was fine, mainly hospital orientation, kind of boring. But I have started ancillary rounds since then (rounding through a lot of different departments to see how it all works and see how it will affect my department). I did 2 days in the ER and did a lot of IVs, couple of foleys and felt like an idiot when it came to meds and other things. I haven't been on my floor yet, I start my precepting on the 22nd. I got my first paycheck last week though! :yeah:All in all, I think it is going well. I love my hospital, I've enjoyed working with the people in other departments, I hope my floor is as welcoming and I love it as much!

I'm glad things are going well for you guys and Mi Vida Loca, it's nice to have an update from you... I remember sharing some things with you throughout nursing school! I start orientation TOMORROW!! I'm so excited and nervous. Tomorrow and Tues is just basic hospital orientation, my nursing orientation and ancillary rounds start the following week. I am anxious to meet my preceptor(s), I hope I get someone I mesh with! I'll update you guys once I get going! Keep up the great work, guys! We're Nurses!!

I did not see your question until now... but I actually start my first RN job TOMORROW!! I start orientation tomorrow, I'm soooo excited! I was hired on a med/surg floor and through a new grad program at my local hospital. Because this is the hospital my school did clinicals with, they hired about 20-25 of us, they only accepted 35 applications though and there were about 80 of us that graduated. I feel so lucky that I got one of the slots. I hope nursing school is going well for you! It'll fly by so hold on!!

Thanks... well orientation starts TOMORROW! Three other new grads were hired on my floor, all girls I went through nursing school together and altogether about 20 of us got jobs at this hospital, so that'll be a great support system for when I FREAK OUT! I am super excited though and cannot wait to get started in my career! We do 2 days of general hospital orientation this week and then I start full time the following week, starting with 2 days of nursing orientation and then ancillary rounds. I can't wait to know the rest of my schedule, I still don't know if I'll be days or nights yet. I guess they hired so many into their new grad program, they hadn't worked that part out yet. Have either of you guys started yet? I know my post was 5 wks ago....

I graduated from nursing school in May and will be starting my first RN job on a med/surg floor at my local hospital in about 5 wks. I'm starting to get REALLY nervous and I feel like I'm forgetting stuff because I'm not using it! I did well in school, kept at least a B, sometimes an A and got all good reports in clinicals and precepting. Even though I felt like I did pretty well in school, it all went by sooooo fast and you definitely don't learn everything in school. I feel like I should be studying or something between now and my start date. Am a crazy?

Congrats guys! I'm a new grad as well and just accepted my RN job offer yesterday!! I don't start until Aug 22nd b/c they are starting 20 new grads at the same time. I got a job on the med/surg floor of our hospital. I'm so excited, proud, nervous and anxious all at the same time!

Thanks for the tips! I just got THE CALL yesterday, I have a job on our hospital's med/surg floor! I start Aug 22nd! They have a good orientation/precepting program but I'm so nervous. I'm afraid of doing something wrong or missing something important. There are a few clinical skills I never got the opportunity to do in nursing school and they scare me! Its been so long since we had our lab training on those skills. This really helps though, thanks!

Hi, I live just south of Savannah and am a GN as well. Unfortunately, a lot of the residency programs are already filled or are in the last steps of the process. Memorial only had about 14 slots and hired all from within. St. Joe/Candler was not an option for me since I have an ADN and not a BSN (they aren't hiring any RNs w/out a BSN right now). Those are the Savannah hospitals, Hinesville (Ft. Stewart) has a hospital but they hired from within for their GN positions too (only had like 4). I heard the military hospital in Hinesville is hiring, but I didn't apply. Brunswick has a hospital (about an hr and 1/2 south of Sav) and they have 18 positions, but I think they have already chosen everyone they are interviewing. Jesup (about an hr from Hinesville) has a couple of positions still. Those are the places I have applied to... Had an interview in Jesup yesterday and one in Brunswick today! Good luck!

Update: I just took my last section test of nursing school (all we have left are two standardized finals) and I made a 96! I haven't made As through the whole program, been many Bs and even a handful of Cs... but I think I'm finishing on a good note! I'll be taking the last final next Tuesday, my pinning ceremony is next Friday and then graduation that Saturday! Soooooooooooooo EXCITED!!

Just breathe! If you want this bad enough and work hard enough, you will succeed and you won't be weeded out. It is a lot of work and I felt the same way as you a while back. I have been out of highschool for almost 6 1/2 years now and piddled my way through college from then until now. I started my second semester of the nursing program today and I'm doing fine, I'm actually doing better than I expected. I passed last semester with an 89 as my average. You have to stay in control of this. You'll do fine. Just keep dreaming of the day "RN" will be behind your name and you are giving orders to the CNAs instead of taking the orders... and the day you make the big bucks! :grad:

I agree, apply to both. That way if you aren't accepted into the RN program, you can start the LPN program... but I wouldn't "choose" that over the RN program. We have a few LPNs in our RN program and they regret "wasting their time" with LPN stuff just b/c the pay is so much less for almost the same amount of schooling, and then twice the schooling if you decide later to get your RN, like they did.

Our program requires A & P 1, Engl and math before you can apply to the 2 year program... acceptance is also on a point system, since nearly 400 apply and about 80 get in each year. The more co-reqs like A & P 2, Micro and all the other fun stuff that you can get done prior to applying, the more points you'll have b/c they see you as having a higher chance of success b/c you will be able to focus on the nursing classes.
