So I'm officially starting nursing school tomorrow, no more gen Ed's, finally!! Anyway, I've been putting off buying shows because I don't know what type of leather I Should buy of dansko. Oiled or cabrio?? Which will hold up the best?

I have the Danskos leather volley style. My feet never hurt at clinicals plus they look professional. I spent $85 and it was well worth it. Prior I bought a cheap pair from life uniform store and my feet ached and my socks were sweaty. You are going to be in the nursing program for a while so you might as well invest in a good pair of shoes. Make sure your clinical instructor approves of your shoes. I say get the most comfortable shoes that feel the best for your feet.[/quote']What color danskos do you have and what type of leather? I know the patent (the shiny one?) is supposed to be bad in the environment.

HI~ I have these and they are my favorites!
ALEGRIA DEBRA FRIENDS
So comfy and super cute and like another poster with her Alegrias mentioned, TONS of compliments.
I also have black patent Alegrias and Danskos. All good, but these are my favorites.

I have a pair of Danskos that someone gave me for Christmas, but they hurt my feet. I usually just wear a pair of New Balances. They are super comfy.

I have the Dansko professional in tooled (black but with a design). They are easily wipeable and pretty. Even though there's a design on them, they were okay at my school because it's technically just one color. My feet feel amazing after a 12 hour clinical and I plan to use these same shoes at the start of my career. I've heard you can get 6-8 years out of them.

I think the oiled leather would be harder to keep clean...I would either go with cabrio or the patent leather. patent is really easy to clean.
I had Nursemates and they were awfully uncomfortable.
Alegria shoes are really comfy, I like to switch between those and Danskos.

How well/long do Alegrias hold up? Don't want to spend $120 on shoes if they aren't going to last at least 6 months.

I just bought the Alegria Debra in white (What is with Nursing schools requiring white shoes???) and I have to say they are not the cutest shoe at all, but after clinicals last week my feet and back were killing me. I'm going to try them tomorrow at clinical once again. I tried to wear Dansko's but I rolled my ankle the first day and I was so not willing to do that again!
It's a beautiful day to save lives.

I, too, have a pair of Alegrias and my feet have thanked me. I went through about 5 pairs during school trying to find the best pair (also have to be all white).

I bought a couple pairs from Shoes for Crews. I haven't started clinical or anything yet, but when I tried them on at home they were super comfy and they have slip resistant soles.

I loved Danko. My feet and legs never ache after a busy clinical day or shift. For me the leather was easy to clean (white) but of course like any other leather item you have to be careful for scuffs marks. If you treat them with care and clean them weekly you wont have to purchase another pair until you start to work. Or in my case, I bought a new pair for pinning. Which was a year and a half later.
