I am SO mad.

A girl from nursing school that I have as a friend on Facebook made a post and checked-in/tagged her clinical rotation. She proceeded to post within the check-in that the smell of gangrene was nasty as ****. In her comments she said she could not wait to get HIM out of the hospital.

This brings disgust to me. I am guilty of sharing my clinical woes with my mom in confidence but this girl is posting information with her NAME ... PIC ... While .... While .... Tagging the facility and speaking incredibly ill of a patient.

What if that was MY grandpa? What if this man is about to lose his limb or what is left of a residual limb?

There's a difference between venting and being a complete disrespect to the profession.

I don't know if I am overreacting but it does make me slightly upset.

Not only is she parading information she's making us look bad.

Yeah. I won't say a word. What a shame though, that bringing to light dark matters can only get one in trouble. I've made up my mind and I'm not saying a word.

Thanks everyone.

Good decision :) You might find out later that someone else chose to report her to the school. Either way, karma will catch her one day.

And if she ever wants to know why you deleted her from FB, you can tell her!!

That could be grounds for dismissal from the program. Sure, you can share your battle stories with one another, but on something like Facebook (and checking in!) is highly inappropriate.

If that behavior continues when she is working as a nurse, I guarantee her employer will find out and she will get terminated.

This gets me the most... even if you're crazy enough to post something like "gangrene stinks" on fb, why escalate to the point of tagging the place... smh

A few co-workers were spoken to as they took far away pics of the counter to show all the work we were being blasted with... my thing is, update your status ("stressed/tired" for e.g.)if you want but why the step of tagging and photographing your dilemma... REALLY?

Unfriend her, keep quiet, and she has enough rope to hang herself.

What she did was a HIPAA violation...the mention of the name wasn't necessary. She listed the facility, the gender, the fact she took care of him, the day and the fact he had gangrene. That is enough.

If she pulls that crap when she gets out of school, she won't find herself employed very long.

My facility FIRED several nurses for posting similar rants.

My advice...unfriend her before you get drug into the quagmire she's building.

I'll add this, if she did a 'check-in' that means she was at the hospital when she did it. IF she did it while on the floor, THAT alone (using cell phone) would be grounds for serious displinary action in my program. NO phones are allowed in use on the floor.

Sounds like the posting should be on TMZ, not Facebook .

Well, maybe I'm just a cold empty shell (always a possibility), but I don't know that I'd be so crazy mad and delete her and leave poo on her front price and tell her she's not your friend anymore.

She screwed up, but that's between her and HIPAA...and the hospital and your school. Hopefully it won't get back to anyone who knows the patient, and life will go on. Hopefully she'll learn to filter herself.

Last year someone was close to removed from our program for doing something similar. He posted about someone he was taking care of and tagged the hospital. Well, when you tag someone, that someone SEEES the tag. He basically announced to the hospital that he was spreading pt gossip and was banished from that clinical location.

But he learned his lesson, no one was hurt, and life goes on.

Uh I think this could get her kicked out of nursing school as well as cause the school to lose their relationship with this hospital. Someone needs to know!

What a disgusting person. I think you made the right decision by keeping quiet. Just don't get involved with her at all. There are several students at my school that I do not associate with because of them acting like that. It is best to keep yourself under the radar and graduate without any drama.

Thanks everyone.

So true. I know of many people who were given a 0 for the entire quarter for having a cell phone. My school is tough when it comes to this stuff. We have a very good reputation with hospitals. Were one of the only ADNs who rotate at magnet status and medical centre facilities. Our school tells us they go through blood and tears and hoops of fire for us to have good rotations. They work hard to get us good spots.

Geesh. I'm even scared to tag myself and comment "good day" "bad day" on FB .
