i'm a first semester student in a tough private school; i guess it's too tough! a lot of students are starting to drop out like crazy! i'm not excelling but i am passing and besides the busy work i'm not feeling uncomfortable. guess i should consider myself lucky~!

any other first semesters out there see in this in their programs?

Am in my second semester but we just had our midterm on Monday. Somehow I managed to swing an 80% and my grade didn't really change. But there were ALOT of empty seats the next day and my clinical group is down to 5 from 7. For me that midterm was really make or break. We have 6 more quizzes before the final so I'm not too worried about passing this semester (79.5% and up to pass). But ya there are a lot more open seats than there were 9 weeks ago.

We have the 79% and up passing grade too. I think I have an 81% now so barely passing but I'm not complaining at all. We have a test on Monday and I hope to try and pull that grade up at least 1-2%. My clinical group is intact so far. We'll see how long that lasts..

Haha, get used to wild kingdom. We started out with 110, ended up with about 25 after 4 yrs, and that includes a few that had to retake from previous classes. I'd start getting to be buddy-buddy with the smart people and bringing them cupcakes and buying them coffee. They are also probably buddy-buddy wtih the profs and know a lot of the questions to the tests.

And I bet there are copies of old tests floating around. Knowing the answers to a few of those questions saved me.

many moons ago... i recall my first semester, we started with 32 students, 4 of them male including me, by the end of the first semester 6 dropped out including 3 of the males...consequently, at graduation the count was 21 including one male... me:cool:

interesting concept... i ponder if those who rely on the old test, will pass their nclexrn?

yeah... it is cheating... awkward...

to the OP, I know how you feel. my class just had it's final test. unfortunately, some left in tears after grades came out. I felt like a jerk later that day. We all went out for drinks afterwards and i toasted to our success. I did not realize that one of the people that failed came out with us too. insert foot in mouth...

The average drop rate is probably somewhere around 50%. The vast majority of those comming in the first semester.

I absolutley agree. It's funny on my first day of nursing school I saw all these students a good 400 and on my last day of class we hardly made up 130. Some people just arent meant to be nurses or need to work harder to accomplish the goal.

Wow, I am amazed at the numbers now.

But, in 2003-2004 when I was in School, we did seek out old test questions, and yes they helped tremendously.

We still studied, and never really relied 100 percent on them, I would say, use every legal way under the sun to your success. As far as Cheating. . .Every board review program uses sources of students who priorly taken the NCLEX-RN, and the practice is still alive and well, . . BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, NCLEX review books helped us study, and test our knowledge alot- just make sure the questions are set up NCLEX style. General Knowledge, as I am sure you have learned by now is not going to save you, it is General Knowledge of the material plus the Critical Thinking and Actual Practice that is going to help you pick the correct answer on test.

Alas, I never like feeling confident about a right answer until I ruled the others out. Sometimes more than one answer is RIGHT, but one is better, higher priority, or etc.
