Hey there forum family! I am another pre-nursing student on the boards (just registered for my last pre-req:D) and I thought it would be fun, and interesting to share with everyone what our nursing goals and specialties are? I feel proud to be counted among the many that have decided to become nurses because of a drive and desire to impact and improve lives. :redpinkhe

I have been working in a hospital for a little over a year now in an office setting, but I still get to be very involved with the medical staff and the different units of the hospital. I can honestly say I have a passion for PICU! My career goals as a nurse are to complete nursing school, obtain a BSN, obtain my MSN and certification to be a Neo-natology Nurse Practitioner. I love babies and I think taking care of the really sick ones, and watching them return to health will be incredibly rewarding.

Whether you are getting your RN license, or plan on continuing your education further, I'd love to hear it!

First: Get my ASN in 2012, and work part time my senior year of college.

Second: Get my BSN in 2013.

After college, I want to work abroad (in Haiti if it's safe enough, but definitely in a developing country), and do a DNP program so I can become a FNP, or maybe to a MPH because I'm interested in community health, and working in a clinic/pediatricians office.

...so pretty much...as long as I don't have to work in a hospital or do research as my career, I'll be set!

Specializes in LTC, Psych, Hospice.

Having been in hospice for nearly 12 years, I plan on staying there when I finish my BSN.

Specializes in Geriatrics.

My main goal is to be an RN working in Psych. Depending on where I am in life, I would eventually like to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

I'm planning on getting my BSN, not sure exactly what I want to do, as long as it isn't with babies (of course my luck would be that I end up working with babies). Then I want to move on to a MSN.

I know there always seems to be talk about CRNA around these boards but doesn't that seem like a boring job? I don't know, I'd have to see it in action.

Which is also partly why I don't know my end goal, I think I'd need to see what the various jobs entail before I go there. Psych sounds kind of fun though although I would be afraid of some loss of clinical skills.

In general, I decided on nursing b/c of my mom's years as a phlebotomist in the Tex Med Center (I grew up in hospitals almost), my school nurse in high school, and my dear aunt who passed after becoming severely debilitated within a few months. At this time, I had no idea what kind of nurse I wanted to be; I just wanted to be there.

In my 12th grade year, we saw a surgery at the hospital where I do my clinicals now and I was like "wow! insides!!!!" so then I became interested in OR nursing.

As of right now, my goal is to finish my BSN and work in a community setting, such as a school, clinic, etc. Home health interests me too b/c of my dear aunt. However, I might need skills from the hospital to be fully proficient even though hospitals reminds me too much of clinicals right now :shudders:

My lofty goal is to get a MPH/MS Health Informatics and go to work for the CDC. I need more information about nurse epidemiologists. Epidemiology bored my classmates; it made me an information junkie. When I finally get to go to the OR in November, I'll see how I still feel about OR nursing. You never forget your first love, right?

Specializes in Family Medicine, Medical Intensive Care.

I'm currently leaning towards becoming a Radiology RN.

I'm going for my 2 year degree...I'll graduate in May. I don't have any desire to go further, mainly because of my kids (and the rest of my family)....I've already taken enough time away from them. I'll be perfectly content stopping as an RN. :) Good luck to you all!

Well when I was a kid I wanted to do medical research (I know) and still do. I think I would like to work some in different fields but oncology is my main field I woul like to go into and then work in research maybe at St. Jude. I know that might sound very boring but I have always liked research now when I get into the ABSN program I might hate it but when I was a kid yeap it was my dream job.

im just a pre-nursing student but i have big dreams!:D

I want to get into nursing school (oh please oh please oh please i wanna get into nursing school!)

get a job in L&D, work for a year

get my MSN

get my DNP

i wanna eventually become a teacher and become like the two professors who have inspired me most throught my college career (English I and Biology Lab) both of those teachers have their doctorates and i wanna be like them

i'll probably start teaching after i get my master's but the doctorate is the goal!! :yeah:

all in all though, i just really wanna be a nurse

those are my goals!!

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

#1. graduate my BSN program& pass the NCLEX.. (all most there! ) so i can finally sign RN,BSN!

#2 get my PHRN cert

#3 work in an ER preferably but ICU is ok too

#4 work as a flight nurse (CFRN of course)

and when i get old and tired and my (future) kids & (soon to be) husband need me and want me at home more- ill either go into Case Management, or work as a Clinical Instructor :)

:nurse:

Well, my first priority is making it through NS! I would love to work in L&D for a bit. I am going for my ADN now, will also do my BSN and MSN. My main goal is to eventually be a forensic nurse!

Im going to start my nursing classes this fall im super exicted. I plan on doing the RN-BSN bridge program during my last year of my associates program and go onto my masters. I really would like to work in either critical care, ICU, ER, or OR i would really enjoy being in those situations admiring the human body. I am also interested in doing work for MSF since i have always had a passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures. =]
