At my old job I did Sunday and Monday night then worked Wednesday day, I only did this every other week though. I had a hard time falling asleep Tuesday night and was usually very tired on Wednesday. I was on Ambien for a while. It is doable short term, I still occasionally have a "fake day off" but I could never do it consistently again.

I wouldn't necessarily fight it but I would definitely find out how long this will last.

I worked days with night rotation for years and it's tough. Typically every other weekend;nights Fri and Sat then back on days Mon. It is difficult and took it's toll on me physically and emotionally. I was a mess and it got to where I was unable to sleep day or night. I went to straight days last year and can't believe the difference in how I feel.

My advice, if you have a choice don't let this become a regular schedule.

Weekends off? Woohoo!

That's exactly what I was thinking. If that schedule was consistent, I'd work that schedule. As another poster mentioned, I would just stay up Thursday and go to sleep early for Friday.

I prefer to work straight nights...the switch back KILLS me. But yes I have worked it.

DO you finish up Wed morning or Thursday morning.

Regard;ess...you wtill have YThursday to sleep some then get up....so you are tired to go back to bed that night.

I'd take that over a lot of other schedules I've been stuck with in the past.

I would consider it for the short term, only if they were 8 hour shifts. I would not do 12 hour shifts on such a schedule. That sounds brutal.

Wow, I would love that, compared to some i have worked!

I've had schedules where I do five 12 hour nights, finish Friday morning and then work a day on Saturday.

that kind of schedule is common where the roster runs over 2 weeks instead of one.

Yours sounds great, if you don't want it, can I have it please??!!

My employer does that kind of schedule for the people who work 8 hour shifts. Can you find someone to trade? Usually people at my work will just work out a trade with coworkers, so they don't have to do those sharp turn arounds.

i work 12s, 2 week day/night rotations. I hate it. when get off orientation, I am going to offer to weekend nights just so I have the same schedule. I think. I don't really like nights, but haven't had a long enough time on them to figure it out. Days are really hectic with lots of admissions and discharges, but it seems more "normal". I need one or the other. I don't mind working weekends.

You could always see if someone who also rotates would want go be permanent on one shift & you could be their opposite. All of the 12 hour positions on my unit are rotating, but only two people actually rotate. Everyone else has worked out an agreement to be on either days or nights permanently.

I would have to work it a few weeks to see how that would be. Having the 3 day weekend every weekend would be nice. But not everyone could work a schedule like that and stay very sane. As a pharmacy tech at a hospital, I had nights but we did 7 on, 7 off. I still say it was the best schedule I ever had :inlove:

I would never, ever, ever work rotating shifts... I can do days okay and I love nights, but if you have any sort of problems with sleep whatsoever rotating shifts will chew you up and spit you out. I have insomnia and I tried rotating shifts once. I was missing work at least three days per month because I was sleeping less than 12 hours a week and my immune system was in the toilet... I've never been sick so often in my life. I wouldn't inflict rotating shifts on my worst enemy.
