Would you be insulted by this?

Nurses General Nursing

In the past, the hospital where I work would give all the nurses a gift for nurse's week. Usually the hospital would give things like pens, candy, notepads, etc. This year, however, they are offering a tee shirt with the hospital's logo but are charging $10 for any nurses who want the tee shirt and said they will allow nurses to wear the tee shirt in place of their scrub top. To me, it is the equivalent of having someone pay for their own birthday present. Would this insult anyone?

I'd just be shocked to be offered anything for Nurses Week

don't buy it. I bet it will not be offered next year.

We do sell t-shirts with hospital logo for special events, like the March of Dimes going on right now. But it is a choice and you can wear it on Friday if you like, but NOT in clinical areas. Amazingly, they always sell a few thousand dollars worth anyway

Insulted- maybe a little-but not surprised. Our hospital has turned "Nurses Week" into an opportunity for the nurses to send gifts to the other departments with whom we have frequent interactions. "Happy Nurses Week- would you please contribute to the thank-you basket to the radiology department" It has become a chance for nurses to send gifts of apology to all those poor co-workers that have put up with our department over the last year.- I skip it- so should you.

I wouldn't waste the energy that it takes to be insulted. I would probably just laugh at the absurd suggestion of buying a tshirt in the first place. I would suggest bringing in a fruit or veg platter instead to celebrate nurse's week with your coworkers. The actual gift would boost morale and show the appreciation that you all deserve!

It's sad what they are doing. I remember not that long ago we would get bags and beach towels. Little softside coolers. Turkey's at Easter and Christmas. Stethoscopes and pens. tickets to the local amusement park. Bonus at the end of the year....

Sad.....

I'd rather just have the $5 they spend on whatever trinket they hand out.

I hated Nurses' Week/Day when I worked in the hospital. I got treated like crap 364 days a year. I didn't want a stupid pen or a cookie as the hospital's fake token of appreciation. Like "hey we don't actually appreciate you or acknowledge you the rest of the dear, but social standards require us to today."

I get a $25 gift card to Macy's from my current job every year for Nurses' week and, I think, for the holidays. I regifted mine to my Mom last year- it worked well.

I remember the time they gave out identical lunch boxes to each nurse for nurses' week. You can imagine the chaos that ensued with mix ups and nurses spending half their meal breaks rifling through the mass of identical lunch boxes in the fridge trying to find their food!

Indeed its an insult...

They should not charge as you only promoting there brand after wearing that tee shirt. Did you accepted those so called "gifts" or should say "paid gift"??:bored:

I wouldn't be insulted, but I wouldn't buy the shirt either. I don't pay to advertise for anyone. I have a real problem with buying a logo shirt of any kind.

Nope, i can't say i would be very insulted that i didnt get a notepad or candy this year

id simply just not buy the shirt and go about my week

We sort of have that in our hospital. But they made it clear that it was a fund raiser and it was for a good cause. So technically, it's a donation and you get a free shirt.
