Joint Commission is a Joke...
This photo was taken to show how filthy the floors were im my unit. It is a wet jet swiffer pad used on a area the size of a small closet. Joint Commission did their survey and apparently did not ding hospital because management hasn't felt compelled to do anything even after staff and patient complaints.

The Worst Hospital Visitor I've Ever Seen
Thanks for your story. It can be so frustrating when no matter how hard you work, families still feel like you're not doing enough.

What did you get for nurses week?
A tee shirt that if we wanted it we had to pay for it and a flyer advertising businesses that were giving nurses free things like a cinnamon roll.

Quitting: is it okay to say....
I am experiencing horrible management too. I transferred to another floor because of poor management only to be in a worse environment than before.

For those who have been called shy or quiet by your instructors
I, too, was told by my first clinical instructor that I was "too shy" to be a nurse. I have since been an acute care nurse for 10 years. I learned that it takes all kinds of personalities to care for patients.

What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?
I had a patient who had a very active GI bleed and was using the bedside commode because he was so weak. Even though he had toilet paper he must have used some wipes that shouldn't be flushed but there was so much blood I didn't know. When I dumped the commode contents into the toilet and flushed the toilet overflowed and flooded the whole bathroom with blood and toilet water

Silly random nursing thoughts, one sentence, NO JUDGMENTAL FOLKS ALLOWED
I was a brand new nurse and ran into a patient's room I had never seen before after hearing a loud crash and saw the patient trying to get out of bed who pointed at me and yelled "and you, PALE FACE, you lie most of all!!"

Silly random nursing thoughts, one sentence, NO JUDGMENTAL FOLKS ALLOWED
Discovering the following items in a patient's dufflebag: a disgusting plastic bag of rotten shrimp that was leaking through the plastic bag, a homemade knife, a mouthwash bottle with filled with vodka, several pieces of rotten fruit, several lighters, lottery tickets, and beaten speakers held together with duct tape everything wet with shrimp juice.

Would you be insulted by this?
It is not a well made shirt but rather a standard tee shirt with the hospital's logo. If ordered in bulk each tee shirt would be a lot less than $10. Could the hospital actually make a profit if enough nurses buy the tee shirt?

Would you be insulted by this?
In the past, the hospital where I work would give all the nurses a gift for nurse's week. Usually the hospital would give things like pens, candy, notepads, etc. This year, however, they are offering a tee shirt with the hospital's logo but are charging $10 for any nurses who want the tee shirt and said they will allow nurses to wear the tee shirt in place of their scrub top. To me, it is the equivalent of having someone pay for their own birthday present. Would this insult anyone?

New nurse just doing screening, frustrated!
I agree!

guidance needed!!!
Wow! I;m really surprised!

guidance needed!!!
I would be shocked if you are correct about St. Vincent's pass rate. When I graduated and passed in 2003 we had a 100 percent pass rate. I have worked in acute care since 2003 and I feel St. Vincent's prepared me well. In terms of transferring credits, I earned my Bachelor's in nursing in georgia and didn't have any problems with classes transferring.

"I'm going to smash your face in"
Thanks for your feedback. Even if they are in the process isn't it irresponsible to have them work together when they have been told that the nurse is still talking about violence
