allnurses in the news
Parade.com published an article today in honor of National Nurses Week. To celebrate the occasion, they posted a poll to find out who America thinks is the best fictional nurse on television.
allnurses was also featured in the article as a place where "real nurses" network.
And if you'd like to pay tribute to some real-life nurses this week, head over to allnurses.com, a networking site for RNs and nursing students. There, you can write a thank you message and the site will share it with its users.
The last portion refers to our new ThankANurse site, which was launched on Nurses Day 2014.

I don't have any little kiddos and I'm starting to watch the show now!! Big book of Boo-Boos cracks me up.Not necessarily the best, but one of my new faves: Hallie the hippo on Doc McStuffins. She's sometimes the first introduction little kids get to nursing, and that they help people. Plus she is Sooo cute with her big book of boo boos lol.Can you tell Ive been watching a lot of tv with my 10mo old niece?
Someone mentioned background 2nd string nurses on TV. On MASH, there was Kelley the Hawaiian nurse. They could have written a bigger role for her as a regular. They were always having some guest actress nurse on the show. I liked her.
Of course, its also a site for LPNs, seeing as we're nurses and the site is called Allnurses....My favorite TV nurse? Ann Perkins from Parks and Rec!
Favorite Ann Perkins quote:
Patient: I want a new nurse.
Ann: Well, there aren't any.
Patient: Then I want a janitor. They can do what you do, right?
Ann: Yep. Nurses and janitors are totally interchangeable.
Carol Hathaway will always hold a special place in my heart, but she did retire over a decade ago now, so I've decided I'm allowed to have a more modern favorite TV nurse, and after watching Parks and Rec reruns, Ann Perkins is it. I thought of this thread after watching it on Netflix after my nightshift last night. She's fanrastic, because she's not a doctor's handmaid at all. She runs the show. The doctors are barely mentioned on the show. She's looked up to by Leslie Knope (who herself is a strong female lead) as being "smart and beautiful." The other government employees all seek her for health advice, and while the show isn't always scripted accurately ("I diagnosed two melanomas today- both benign!") she's shown as knowledgable. She even gets stubborn old Ron Swanson to eat a banana for the potassium!
Far too American-centric........
My favourites would be British (obviously).
My top pick though would be Charlie Fairhead played by Derek Thompson. He started in 1986 in a programme called 'Casualty' and is still going strong and is now either an ENP or a Clinical Nurse Manager (I don't watch the show so am not too sure - it's irrelevant).

Its honestly the only kiddie cartoon I can stand nowadays, most of them are so weird! But the basic premise is a little girl called Doc McStuffins is the local toy fixer, and her mom is a pediatrician. They have cute little songs and she always does a physical assessment and comes up with some cute diagnosis like "you have a severe case of the squeaky wheelitis" or "blue spotatosis". My niece goes insane when it comes on, I highly recommend it for kids!
