Whoever invented the lunch and learn

Should get a swift kick in the rear. I find it so irritating that the ONLY break I get if I even get one has to be spent on a lunch and learn. If there is info I need to know for my job, they should do it during work hours, not on MY time. I need a break! Anyone with me on this? No it is not "mandatory" technically, but it is a new device we will be using and I do need to know how to use it. So I really had to go.

Not mandatory yet.................... On nights this is non existent where I work. When I do/did days i realllly resented this also.

I can see how that may bother you, but for me I wouldnt care too much. If they give me lunch sure! Plus I like learning. Im a nerd. And I get away from the floor.

We aren't allowed to be interrupted on our lunches and have a sign on the door reminding people before they barge in. If we get interrupted we get to start over :D

I agree. I would rather buy my own lunch than have to spend my break thinking about work. Like you said, it's my time.

Even worse is "Potty training". Training posted in the bathroom for crying out loud. Can't even pee without thinking about the job.

Wow, I'm amazed you can go. Where I work, they have lunch "conferences" but none of the floor nurses have that amt of time to go. Usually it's secretaries who show up just to eat the free lunch

If you are unpaid for that time, I don't see how they can make it mandatory. The last hospital I worked at was doing this "lunch and learn" crap. I refused to go. If something is mandatory, then I am going to be paid for my time. Otherwise, leave me alone for my 30 minutes.

I never found room to complain about that one. We usually got some free tasty lunch for 10 minutes of our time. I actually enjoy them.

Depends on if they buy the lunch, but I agree, sounds kind of lame.

Well, our hospital didn't even provide us with a free meal. We were suppose to get our lunch and then attend the "lunch and learn." Don't think so.

At my workplace, a lunch and learn is different from a mandatory education session. Lunch and learns are optional and for education purposes. The sessions are held off the nursing unit and all disciplines are invited to attend, sometimes lunch is provided. Whereas, a mandatory education session is not optional and is usually held to provide instruction about a new device or system, the mandatory sessions are held on the unit, during working hours.
