what was your favorite part of clinical during nursing school?

well i only had one semester of clinical so far. my favorite part was being able to interact with all of my patients. they were all so different, they all had a story....it was fun. my instructor wasn't my favorite person in the beginning because i felt like she threw us into everything with no guidance. but towards the end she was really cool and i would love to go back and have clinical with her again. my advice to you is be PREPARED. whenever you're assigned a patient (s) make sure you know absolutely everything there is to know about why they're there and what they have wrong with them. don't ever come unprepared or you will hear about it, believe me. :) i was really terrified of clinical at first but now i'm excited to begin again :)

My favorite part of clinical was being able to go with my patients(s) to diagnostic procedures, surgery, etc. Going with them and seeing the other departments is something you never get to do once you're working. It would be comforting for my patient to have a familiar face accompanying them too. I also liked going to those areas because they were areas where I could learn by just observing. No stress.

I sure as heck don't miss school, but I do miss the days of being able to spend so much time with my patients. :nurse:

Yes! This was my favorite too. I liked watching surgeries ect without being responsible for anything.

I loved being able to actually spend time with them, one on one, getting to know them. To them, it was like being a private duty nurse. To me, it was heaven!

I really liked all of my clinicals. I was less fond of OB and Peds, but I learned in all of them.

During my last year, we had the chance to float through some specialty areas for several shifts. I loved the ICU; it was a great learning experience for me in that it taught me to see the big picture, and how all of the separate components of patho and A&P came together. I liked that a lot.

Pediatrics was my favorite. We had a male clinical instructor who had previously been a high school principal. He decided working with kids wasn't his forte, so he went to nursing school. He was awesome as a clinical instructor. He actually was contracted out by our school of nursing, so he wasn't one of our instructors at school. We were really lucky to have him.

I almost passed out during our OB rotation. I saw a baby being born and is it different from the other end! It was the woman's 5th boy! Proud papa was video taping and I saw the process of birth from a totally different angle after having 2 of my own. The image is embedded in my brain of that woman having the episiotomy. I still can see it like it was yesterday and that was about 15 years ago.

I have 2 favorites...My passion is and was then psych nursing, so I adored my psych rotation. I got to do my clinicals at a state psych hospital and I had the same patients for my whole clinical which was FUN...it was amazing to see them come in so ill and leave mostly functional.:D

My other favorite part was the GYN clinical. We were assigned to an OB/GYN office for a week, and by sheer luck I was assigned to my own OB/GYN! lol After being assured that there would be no conflict of interest, I relaxed and learned a TON from him!! He was so much fun, so patient, and took me to a TON of surgeries that week!! He treated his patients and nurses like gold!:redpinkhe

FOR SURE my Capstone (last semester practicum).....it was the first time I actually FELT like a nurse!:yeah:

I throughly enjoyed the last 3 weeks of my Capstone spent in the PACU. This opened up my interest for critical care and I'll be going to the ICU in 2 months. I'm part of a new grad residency program.

I agree with the earlier posts. I enjoyed observing various procedures (and not being responsible for helping carrying them out), being on different kinds of units, and having the time to spend w/ patients to hear their stories and do thorough patient teaching.
