What draws non-nurses to AN.com?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Just saw a thread from a fairly distressed RN who fears losing her first nursing job. The very first response was from someone who stated "while I am not a nurse, I think ...."

It made me stop and think - I wonder what draws non-nurse, non-medical people here? And to give advice? I can't imagine being interested enough in an engineering forum, for example, to hang out on it, let alone offer advice in an area in which I have no experience or training.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with anyone posting on any forum. I just find it curious. Perhaps my worldview is too limited and I need to expand my Internet browsing beyond AN.com?

I can see lawyers being drawn to some of the posts, especially if the poster is describing a patient incident and giving too much information.

This.

The OP in the thread that I was referencing was very upset and looking for constructive advice/experience. The very first responder was the non-nurse who proceeded to say that he/she didn't see anything wrong with OP's actions and that she shouldn't worry.

If I'm asking for advice from a nursing peer, then that's who I want to hear from.

OMG! I have no idea how I managed to post that mess! I reported it since I can't seem to edit it.

ya sure scared the poo outta me.....

Oh! And let's not forget the medical assistants who politely come to warn us that they'll soon be replacing us, cause they basically do everything we do anyway.

I had always assumed it was for the free beer and sandwiches.

I tried to fix it for you....but it was rather funny. :cheeky:

There are SANDWICHES???? I've been doing this wrong I think.

I came here as a pre-pre-nursing student but mostly read and asked questions. I didn't give advice on things I had no clue about.

I think a lot of folks fit in the "I had a bad experience and need to vent/put you all in your place" category. The "I have this rash and my arm is hanging off, my doctor told me to go to the ER, how much tylenol should I take instead?" folks don't seem to hang around once their threads get closed for TOS.

Forget the sandwiches, where's the beer?

Because what better way to feel superior than to come tell all of us what we're doing wrong?
