Weird, Odd Nurses Behavior.....

Nurses General Nursing

Published

As a nurse, and I guess a germaphobe at times, and just generally weird.....I have picked up on a few of my own rediculous behaviors that I guess I have managed to obtain through the years.

1. If drinking from a large open glass on the nurses unit. I cover the glass with a paper towel, put a straw through the top, and bend the straw not up, but down towards the ground..................why..........well, everybody knows germs fall from the sky and into things...like straws.... :chuckle

2. When opening a new can of pop, I wash it under the sink of running water, and then take a paper towel, all smushed up to a point, and go around the rim of the top of the can to get the dirt off, then open it and drink it.

3. I don't let food touch each other on my plate, and I only eat one thing at a time on my plate. I always finish one thing, and then move onto the next.

Anybody else share in this weirdness????????????????? :rotfl:

If someone coughs or sneezes anywhere near me in public, I hold my breath and practically run until I am least 3 feet away...sheesh! and Im still a student too lol

OMG, I thought I was the only one!

I am such a germaphobe....why do I want to be a nurse again??? :rotfl:

I absolutely can not stand to see empty cups, containers or trash lying around at home!!! If its empty, it better be in the sink!!! I also have an obsession with cleaning all my patient's trash out of the room..There is noting more disgusting than walking to a room first thing in the morning and seeing it full of dirty wipes, old iv bags and tubing, syringes and even food piled uo from a previous shift. AMARTIN1 :)

Ialways carry alcohol with me everywhere...Isn't it embarrassing when you drop the bottel and it makes that loud clinking noise. You'd think that scrunched up brown paper bag would be good for something. :rotfl:

How fun! Where to begin? Well, I'm nerotic, so here goes:

!1. If someone coughs or sneezes around me I hold my breath

2. If someone burps I always catch myself instructing them to "say excuse me" under my breath

3. I can't stand open cabinets or drawers. If you opened them, please close them!

4. My med cart must be cleaned and stocked: before, during, and after my shift. If I come on shift and my cart looks a mess I start grumbling. Extremely audibly.

5. I always get my fresh vegetables and fruits before getting anything else at the grocery store.

6. I always have to check allnurses before going to bed. Even when I've just come off an evening shift and I'm exhausted.

Good night.

Oh, just thought about my newest weird act: Spraying Lysol antibacterial on toilet seats. My daughter has an obsession with public bathrooms :uhoh3: :uhoh3: so now I carry a can of lysol in my baby bag. I spray the toilet, let it dry, line it in toilet paper, and then still hold her about 18 inches above the seat! :imbar

Perhaps you have OCD. Easily treated with meds. The meds aren't problematic, either.

Ha Ha very funny.

I'm sure you have some odd behaviors that you would like to share with the rest of us?????? :coollook:

when ever I come home from grocery shopping I always wash my hands. Just thinking about all the people who touched the cart handle, the boxes, the meat packages makes me cringe because you just don't know where their hands have been and if they even washed them.

Groc. stores in my area have put disinfecting wipes in several locations, including near the carts, so you can wipe the handles down. Love it! Now I don't have to shop w/ gloves on :chuckle .

I'm sort of like this, if it alters the taste of anything.

I'm REALLY like this with beets. I do not like beets on my plate with other food, they are put on a separate bowl. The rest of my food turning purple would gross me out.
