I went up to WalMart this afternoon to pick up a prescription. Out front, like every Veteran's Day, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) was selling Buddy Poppies. I always stop and buy one in honor of my Dad who fought in WWII and a grandfather who fought in WWI.

One of my bestest friends was a nurse stationed in Saudia Arabia during the Gulf War. And, I have a couple of friends who were stationed in MASH units during the Viet Nam conflict.
So, with this holiday weekend, as we honor our Veterans, I just wanted to say thanks to the veteran nurses as well as so many men who lost their lives and fought for my country, so I can sit on my couch sipping Diet Coke and playing on my computer today. We owe our lives and our lifestyles to these men and women.

I am a veteran of the Air Force. Although I never participated directly in the Gulf War (meaning I did not go to the desert), I did work to support those that remained in the states.
Where were you stationed, MishlB?

I was active duty Air Force '81 -'85. I wasn't a nurse, but I worked in the hospital and clinics as a Health Technician.
I also spent 2 years active duty in the Coast Guard. I worked at a Search and Rescue station.
Thank you for the thread and I want to thank all the vets that are here.
My husband is active duty CG and he has 21 years in. I'm very proud of him. :)

I retired from the Marine Corps last year, after 22 years. I was a Harrier jet aircraft engine mechanic, and now I'm a nursing student. What a change!

US Army, 14 years, doing nothing even remotely related to nursing or health care. Proud of my service, glad to be a "raggedy ass civilian" again.
