I was watching "House" tonight and I LOVE that show, but it ticks me off sometimes. Have you noticed on that show that everytime there is a mess such as an incontinent patient, House says "We need a nurse in here". Like thats all we are fit for or all we do....cleaning up poo. Ive seen this several times on there. Tonight a patient was incontinent of stool, House says "We need a nurse in here" GRRRRRRR

Yeah. I love House, but there are parts of it that just make me roll my eyes. The way nurses are portrayed is one of them.

It's the nature of the show. He's an ass to his co-workers and patients alike.

Why should he be any different to the nurses?

PS I LOVE the show:rolleyes:

Yeah I wish there was a show called "Nurses"...a real drama that depicts nurses accurately

And, of course, it's the tiny team of doctors that does ALL the patient care and tasks: they put in IVs, they draw labs, they give ALL the patients' meds, they change dressings, they take vital signs. And my favorite: they sit at the bedside, asleep even, so they can be there the moment the patient does anything! ROFL!

(1) the only one watching would be US! General public would assume it's too boring, since we don't really do anything....

and

(2) no one would believe it: after all, they've been watching TV nurses for YEARS, and NONE of them did what those new Real Nurse characters do.... LOL!!

Think about it ...if House did not treat every one around him with such distain, would he still be House? I think not! That is almost part of what makes him so lovable... at least he is predictable. and I have to admit I LOVE me some House!!!!

I try to take these things with a grain of salt, knowing that I will be doing much more for my patients (eventually I hope) than any tv role could adequately portray...think of it like this , to really give nurses a fair portrail every one else in the show would have to be a secondary character, even the patients...well now that I think of it ,I am not sure it could be done in an accurate manner, and unfortunately probably not while having the high Neilsen ratings of shows like HOUSE and ER, it is that fabricated constant drama that keeps people coming back~

Maybe if he went to a real hospital, and saw real doctors, and real nurses, and how they perform their jobs he might change up a bit?

It'd be a pretty boring show. :D

I watch very little TV as is. But I certainly would not watch a show based on a physician who practices while being addicted to lortab. And one episode portayed where he actually stole some lortabs also. Personally , I find this concept highly offensive.

I had this discussion with a patient yesterday ... I was starting her IV, hanging her antibiotics, etc., and she said something about how we should hire House so we could get a break and make him do all the work! :D The scary thing is that some patients don't realize that House is fantasyland ...

I had another patient, 8 years old, who is a big fan of Grey's Anatomy. He rattled off the hierarchy of doctors -- "I know it goes intern, resident, attending, and chief." So our ER doc introduced himself as "the attending." The little guy was so thrilled! LOL!! (We're a freestanding ER and only have one doc anyway. Heh.)
