The FINAL scope thread

Nurses General Nursing

Ok. I know, there are a ton of these threads out here and I am not going to do a search so don't suggest it. :D

Some of the ladies at my job want to buy me a stethoscope as a graduation/good luck/going away gift. All through school I had a Littman classic (which was fine until it suffered a terrible accident involving a gurney and a 370 lb patient). I recently got an ultrascope which I hate (can't hear a fargin' thing).

So..... any suggestions? I am going to work on an adult med/onc floor. I'm pretty sure I'll get a Littman... do you suggest any particular model over another? What has your experience been?

Thanks in advance. My hearing acuity is adequate, and so I'm not looking for any of those electronic sound-enhancing scopes.

Reb

Well, I am obviously the odd woman out! I have never tried a Littman but I have used the same Harvey stethoscope for 20 years. It's great quality but I couldn't tell you how it compares to a Littman. I just know when I listen with a cheaper brand stethoscope, I can't hear a darn thing!

Reb, my friend, Ask for the Littman Cardiology III or Master Cardiology. Trust me, you will NOT be sorry.

Sjoe, your fargin ignore list must be getting mighty long. I wish you would QUIT telling people to do a search, esp when they say they do not want to. There are plenty of us willing to help out.

Can the master cardiology be used for adults and peds? I see on the website it can be used for low and high frequency sounds depending on the pressure on the chestpiece.

Once I feel comfortable with what I'm doing on my floor (so, in like a year or two), I'd like to get on per diem or PRN on a pedi onc floor, so I'd like a scope I can use for both.

I guess I'm leaning towards the cardio III.

Or I can get the gold plated master cardiology like Dr. Romano has. :D

I like my cardio III.

I am soooooo disappointed :(

I have always wanted to get an Ultrascope. Now you go and tell me that it is horrible.

I hope your happy, you single-handedly crushed all my hopes and dreams. :D

Leigh

Seriously though, I did always want an Ultrascope, they look so cool and had heard a few good reviews about them.

Just because I don't like the ultrascope, doesn't mean you won't. I know a lot of nurses who have them.

I think the acoustics leave much to be desired.

Try it out. You can return it if you're not satisfied.

I had a Littman Classic II, and never needed anything else.

'Course, I work L&D yanno, but we DO do assessments on our post-ops.....

Reb:

I used my Master Cardiology on both peds and adults (even infants). Never had a problem.

My cardio III works GREAT on all patients, and I take care em all...moms, lil old gynie ladies and newborns just out in the world. The audio is 2nd to none. You won't regret having a good Littman cardio scope.

Here's some info from the company. i do have a couple of adapters that came with mine.

Ditto to that, SmilingBluEyes.

Reb, I had the Master one (got it as a Christmas gift my 1st year in school) and LOVED it...then some "idjit" stole it...it even had my initials engraved on it! I bought the Cardio III b/c it was on sale and can't really tell a difference. I love it just as much. I have not cared for any neonates, but have used it on as young as 5 and does great.
